🚨🚨🚨 LAUNCH ALERT🚨🚨🚨

Good afternoon San Elizario! In case you may have not known, history is a day away. After 53 years, we're heading on another lunar journey to perform the first crewed flight test of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft.

Set those T.V.'s to C-SPAN or head to NASA's YouTube channel to watch the launc. This is an event that many people should try and watch, this will reignite lunar missions and begin Mars missions. Safe viewing, everyone!

( Times listed below are in Eastern time, so the launch will be at 4:24 P.M.)

🚨🚨🚨AURORA ALERT!🚨🚨🚨

San Elizario, get those cameras ready tonight. Yesterday, a massive coronal mass ejection (CME) occurred. A coronal mass ejection is where the Sun blows off a part of its photosphere (surface) towards Earth. This CME was so powerful that it's going to be visible from 24 states from northern California all the way down to states such as Alabama, even into parts of Mexico. It's also going to affect airlines flying at high altitudes, satellites, GPS, and briefly radio signals. Per the NOAA Space Weather Center and other reports, the intensity could reach a whopping S4. We haven't had the Northern lights this powerful or even reach latitudes like this on nearly 20 years. Happy viewing, everyone!

Hello everyone!

Hopefully the wonderful surprise of last night's aurora borealis put smiles on all of our fans's faces. Geomagnetic storms are a sure thing of beauty. If you weren't able to see it tonight, don't fret. El Paso will have another golden opportunity of viewing the aurora tomorrow night as well, per the NOAA's website.

GOOD EVENING EVERYONE!

It's been so long, hasn't it? Life has been great but our followers have been sorely missed but never forgotten. TONIGHT, we have a special treat that'll light up the night sky a bit. That's none other than the Orionid Meteor Shower, an annual meteor shower that occurs around this time every year. The meteors derive from the legendary Halley's Comet with about 10-20+ meteors falling per hour. The best viewing times will be after midnight, around 1:00 A.M. - 2:00 A.M. Happy and safe viewing, everyone ☄️!

🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE🚨

Hello everyone this is Ryan Montes, the founder of the San Elizario Astronomy Society (SEAS). First off, I want to thank everyone of you who has expressed interest not just in the page but the purpose of this society. I'm so glad to see the wonderful City of San Elizario wants to learn about the cosmos and everything it holds. You all make me so happy.

The reason for this post is because as of next week, I will temporarily be moving to Austin for possibly six months to start a new career. Now don't worry, this certainly does not mean the end of our beloved SEAS, it just means that any meetings events will come to a temporary pause. However, if anyone would like to take over the page, this is your opportunity. Anyone that has very high knowledge in astronomy, forming meetings and holding events are prioritized. Feel free to message the page if you're interested in taking over SEAS while I'm gone. Thank you all so much for your understanding and have a wonderful Sunday!

WEATHER UPDATE:

The clouds are continuing to build over the entire city with storms likely in our forecast. Tonight's makeup star party will also be postponed for the safety of those who are interested in attending. Just like you all, it bums me out to keep postponing these events, but our weather in the summertime is very unpredictable with potential monsoon weather. I know we will have one eventually where it'll be a beautiful evening. I'll keep you all updated. Have a good rest of your night and please be safe!

Hello everyone, a quick update on the weather. We have clouds rolling in from the south that look a little menacing so I'm still keeping an eye on that. As long as they stay within a reasonable distance and don't continue to form, we should still be okay. Keep standing by for updates, thank you all so much!

Good afternoon everyone! Today looks like a much better day for our star party as we will keep an eye on the weather throughout the day. If everything stays calm and weather permits, head out to the San Eli placita at 9:00 p.m. tonight and then we'll make our way down near Cattleman's later on. Again, this is an all age event with no alcohol allowed. However, you can bring any snacks or non-alcoholic beverages you'd like. If you have a telescope you'd like to bring or any star charts as well, you're more than welcome to bring them. We hope to see you there tonight!

POSTPONED:

Hello everyone! A quick update, we have overcast weather and possible storms tonight so the star party will be pushed to TOMORROW, WEATHER PERMITTING. Meetup time will now be at 9:00 at the San Elizario placita. Apologies for the inconvenience, we can't wait to see you all!

06/20/2025

Good morning everyone and Happy First Day of Summer! It's been a busy week. Don't worry, tonight's star party is still going down. We're going to meet at the San Elizario placita tonight at 7:00 and head towards Cattleman's not at the restaurant itself but nearby. We can't wait to see you!

Good morning everyone,

To the people that came out to the Earth Day event yesterday morning and stopped by our table, thank you so much. Seeing so many people interested in the society and the purpose of it lets me know I'm doing something right and that this dream is becoming a reality. I cannot wait to plan events and more meetings this year. Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone!
