St. Peter’s Syriac Orthodox Church was full of excitement today as children and families arrived for the first day of Sunday School. The morning started with Lord's Prayer and blessing from the priests in the church, welcoming everyone to the new school year.

Students walked happily into their classrooms to meet their teachers and start their first activities. During the classes, the children made colorful posters focused on big questions about their faith. They wrote and drew about:

-- How to connect to God every day
-- What Faith means to them
-- What it truly means to follow Jesus
-- Who is someone they pray for

In the Social Hall, the children and families enjoyed brunch style food with mini pancakes & assorted toppings, yogurt, fruits and hot and iced coffee. There were also games outside: jump rope, ribbon twirls, soccer, and jumbo dice.

Parents and church members were very happy to see so many children ready to learn about the Holy Bible.

Our Jr. Youth group gathered this past Friday, August 28th, to dive into Jesus’ parable of The Wise and Foolish Builders (Matthew 7:24-27).

Through this powerful story, we learned Strong faith requires a strong foundation. We discussed how building our lives on Jesus’ teachings protects us when life's storms hit.

Following the lesson, everyone put their scripture knowledge to the test in a fast-paced round of Bible trivia. We wrapped up the night by building community over delicious food and snacks. Thank you to everyone who came out to learn, laugh, and grow together!

On Saturday, August 15th, the St. Peter Junior Youth gathered for their 3rd Annual LA Dodgers Game outing, bringing energy, fellowship, and spirit to the stadium for a matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers. While the final score resulted in a tough loss for the Dodgers team, the JR Youth enjoyed wonderful food, created lasting memories, and fun throughout the game. The annual Dodgers Game proved is a great time for fellowship and community bonding that always outshines the scoreboard. 💙

On Saturday, August 15th, we held prayers for the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Our Lady Virgin Mary is of Juda's tribe and the descendant of King David. She was born in 14 B.C. and was her pious parent's, Yovagim and Hane, the only daughter. When she was three years old, her parents took her to the temple of God as a vowed to Him and they died.

The priests and pious women brought her up. They taught her the worship, the virtuous deeds, the Hebrew language, the Old Testament, spinning wool, and weaving linen and silk until she was fourteen. Then she was espoused to Joseph the son of Jacob, who was a relative of her. She is regarded as the ultimate role model for woman in the church because of her faith, love, service, humbleness and being righteous.

Observed each year on 15 August, the feast commemorates the death of the Virgin Mary and, according to Christian tradition, her being taken into heaven.

The celebration is preceded by five days of fasting, during which worshipers traditionally abstain from animal products.

Grapes are at the center of the observance. During the liturgy, grapes are blessed with prayers before being distributed to worshipers

The feast also carries a seasonal significance, with the quality of the grape harvest traditionally associated with the blessing and prosperity of the vineyards in the year ahead

The late, Mrs. Violette Arab, Wife of the late Aziz Nemeh, mother of our dear church member, Lina Murad, has passed away.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) took place from June 23–26, 2026, hosted by St. Peter Syriac Orthodox Church in San Dimas, California. This year’s theme, “Where Your Treasure Is, There Your Heart Will Be Also,” was inspired by Matthew 6:21, reminding our children to place Christ at the center of their hearts and lives.

Children gathered in of faith, fellowship, learning, and joy as they deepened their relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and grew in the rich traditions of the Syriac Orthodox Church. Throughout the week, they participated in Bible lessons, Syriac hymns, prayer, crafts, games, team-building activities, and meaningful discussions that helped them discover that our greatest treasure is found in Christ and His Kingdom.

On Friday, June 26, the students joyfully presented what they had learned through Scripture recitations, Syriac hymns, and reflections on the week’s lessons. They shared how they can treasure Christ above all else by living lives of faith, love, service, and compassion. Their presentation was a beautiful witness to the spiritual growth they experienced throughout the week. Following the program, everyone gathered together for fellowship and lunch, celebrating the conclusion of another blessed and successful VBS.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan, our beloved clergy, teachers, volunteers, parents, and every member of the VBS Committee whose prayers, dedication, and countless hours of preparation made this week such a tremendous blessing. Your faithful service planted seeds that, by God’s grace, will continue to bear fruit for years to come.

May our Lord continue to bless all who served and all who attended, and may the hearts of our children always remain fixed on the greatest Treasure of all—our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ ✝️

On Wednesday, June 17th, the St. Peter Ladies Bible Study group welcomed Kathy Abraham as a guest speaker. She is a theologian, author, and women’s ministry leader dedicated to helping women grow in their faith and understanding of Scripture. She is the founder of Abiding Light, an Orthodox-rooted publishing ministry that provides resources for spiritual formation, discipleship, and leadership, and the host of The Bible Made Real podcast, where she brings practical and theological insight to God’s Word. Kathy holds a Master’s degree in Theology and serves as the Founder and Director of Daughters of Saint Katherine (DOSK), leading women’s ministry initiatives across the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Los Angeles.

Her Bible study focused on 'The Gifts of the Spirit', based on 1 Corinthians 12:4–7, teaches us that God equips every believer with unique gifts to serve His Church and glorify His name. Through gifts of leadership, service, teaching, wisdom, faith, mercy, healing, and encouragement, Christians are called to live in obedience to God, pursue holiness, and use their God-given abilities to strengthen and build up the Body of Christ. While the gifts may differ, they all come from the same Holy Spirit and are intended to help believers grow in faith, reflect Christ’s love, and faithfully fulfill God’s purpose in the world.

The St. Peter Ladies Bible Study Group extends our heartfelt gratitude to Kathy Abraham for sharing her time, wisdom, and love for Scripture with us. With a token of gratitude, the St. Peter Ladies Bible group gifted her an icon of St. Peter and St. Paul 🙏

The St. Peter Ladies Bible group has been meeting for the past 2 and 1/2 years, everyone is welcome to join. We will resume sessions in late August 🙏
