Did you know women are particularly vulnerable to the harms of incarceration?

Here’s why:

🟫 The majority of women in custody in San Bernardino County have experienced trauma

🟫 Have unmet mental and physical health needs

🟫 Are single mothers

🟫Come from low-income communities of color

He was a Baptist minister and social activist who dedicated his life to the nonviolent struggle for justice in the U.S.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) played a pivotal role in ending segregation for Black Americans and to the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Here at Community Reciprocity Development, we honor his legacy and invite you to read through some of his famous quotes that still inspire us today ❤️

We are grateful to all incarcerated individuals who’ve been tirelessly fighting fires in L.A. County.

We also support better wages for them.

Repost from

Last year, California voters rejected Proposition 6, a ballot initiative to ban involuntary labor in prisons and jails, which includes bringing incarcerated people in to help fight wildfires when there are not enough professionals to help.

Now the program is drawing fresh criticism as hundreds of incarcerated people have been deployed to fight the deadly wildfires in the Greater Los Angeles area.

Lori Wilson, the California Assembly member who spearheaded Proposition 6, said she’s spoken with incarcerated people who say many love the work they do as firefighters, but they wish they were paid more.

“They find it truly rewarding and enriching,” Wilson told NBC News. “It’s something they are extremely proud of. We’re fighting to have additional wages, and to be fairly compensated. Not only in adequate wages, but once they leave incarceration, being able to use that service for employment.”
