The CALIFORNIA THUNDER originated in the early 1990's. Won an ASA National Title in the 90's under Tom Tucker. Several coaches made failed attempts to keep the program going in the SGV. In Fall of 2001 Manager/Coach Valerie Van Kirk former Cal State Fullerton NCAA National Champion (1986), who grew up and played in the San Gabriel Valley revitalized the program.
The California Thunder Organization has developed into a highly competitive TRAVEL BALL ORGANIZATION at age levels 12u-18u. In 2013 we had THREE of our 6 teams qualify for the Premier National Championships in the 12u, 14u & 18u Divisions. In 2012 & 2013 our 14u finished 9th at PGF. In 2013 our 12u finished 17th at PGF. In 2014 & 2015, we had 2 teams qualify for the Premier National Championships in the 14u & 18u Divisions.
We are proud to say that we have the ability to assist athletes improve their game and skill set to compete at a top level. Our goal is to assist all athletes in improving their game and receiving a scholarship at a university that is the "best fit" for their academic & athletic needs. Our program has a history of "assisting" almost 100 players in receiving college scholarships in all divisions around the nation.
We must remember that softball ends 4 years after HS for the majority of the softball population. Your future matters to us! We encourage our athletes to make decisions that will impact the rest of their life, not just their athletic career. Softball is a tool that helps us pave the way for a successful lifelong career. We are proud that we focus on assisting young ladies into becoming well-rounded, educated young professional adults. Our college graduation rate is high & a testament to those that we chose to play for us.
Many of our collegiate players have become:
All-Conference players and All-Americans as well as Pro Players. Many of our former players are pursuing Post-graduate education in Medical School, PT School, Vet School, several in Nursing programs. Others have become: Business Marketing Assistants for Global Companies, A Licensed Psychologist, several in Law enforcement etc. We are most proud that our players have pursued and completed a quality education & not made softball the only thing they are capable of doing once they leave college. We are proud to have been a part of every former player's lives!!!
