Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental, humanitarian organization in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC). The foundation focuses on four major missions: charity, medicine, education, and humanistic culture. The foundation also engages in international disaster relief, bone marrow donation, community volunteerism, and environmental protection. “Tzu Chi” means “compassion and relief.”

🙏 Three generations, one shared path. 💙

Rehearsals are in full swing for Tzu Chi USA National Headquarters’ upcoming Sutra Performance in Southern California, commemorating Tzu Chi’s 60th anniversary with a moving rendition of the Sutra of Infinite Meanings.

Among the volunteers preparing to take the stage is a family spanning three generations. Inspired by Yi-Chen Peng, her son and grandchildren have joined the performance in their own ways, from singing in the choir and playing drums to performing sign language and dance.

“This is a family activity, and we really enjoy it,” shared Peng’s son, Wang Kan.

For this family, walking the Dharma path together goes far beyond the stage. As one generation takes the hand of the next, values of compassion, service, and spiritual practice are quietly passed forward, creating opportunities to learn, grow, and share meaningful moments together.

As Tzu Chi celebrates 60 years of compassion in action, their story reminds us that every legacy begins with someone inspiring the next generation. 🙏💙

In Tijuana, Mexico, community members joined forces with Tzu Chi volunteers for a neighborhood cleanup event, tackling the litter and trash that too often accumulates in local streets.

One resident spoke about a serious, often overlooked health concern: the burning of plastic and trash, and the harmful smoke it releases into the air. Through events like this, the community is working not just to clean up their neighborhood, but to raise awareness about protecting the health and well-being of everyone who calls it home.

Meet one of our 2026 Tzu Chi scholarship recipients, a future pathologist who pursued her pre-med dreams while her mom completed chemotherapy. Inspired by Tzu Chi's work in the community, she's heading to Texas A&M, where she plans to join the Tzu Chi Club and keep paying that compassion forward. 💙

Join us on November 1, 2026, in Southern California as we commemorate Tzu Chi’s 60th anniversary and six decades of compassion reaching communities around the world. 💙

Through a special Buddhist sutra presentation, Tzu Chi volunteers will bring the Dharma to life, honoring Tzu Chi’s spiritual lineage and their commitment to carrying its teachings of compassion forward.

Featuring inspiring music, kung fu, and sign language performances, this meaningful afternoon will unite tradition, artistry, and the spirit of Great Love.

Faith in action can create lasting change. 🌎🤝

On September 24, 2026, USA for UNHCR (USA for UNHCR) convened Faith in Action: United for a Lasting Impact, bringing together faith-based organizations and humanitarian leaders to highlight the vital role faith communities play in supporting refugees and advancing humanitarian response.

The event featured high-level remarks from the Muslim World League and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency), along with a recognition ceremony honoring partners committed to serving communities in need.

Speakers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Islamic Relief USA, Tzu Chi, and other organizations shared how faith-based engagement and Islamic philanthropy can mobilize compassion, strengthen collaboration, and create meaningful, lasting impact for refugees and vulnerable communities.

Together, across faiths and traditions, we can turn compassion into action and help build a more caring world. 💙

On June 17, 2026, a tornado tore through Charleston, Illinois, giving residents mere moments to seek shelter before their homes and neighborhoods were changed forever.

But almost as quickly as the storm hit, help arrived. Tzu Chi volunteers came together immediately, offering supplies, support, and comfort to those who lost so much.

"There's been a lot of people coming together, and it's really been surprising how quickly everybody got together. Without it, we wouldn't have much. We're really grateful."

In the darkest moments, compassion has a way of showing up first. 💙

From September 17–19, Tzu Chi volunteers teamed up with local partners across Virginia and Maryland to bring food, clothing, and essential resources to families in need.

🥫 Cornerstones FREE from Hunger Center and Capital Area Food Bank coordinated free and discounted bulk groceries, including a delivery of 7,800 pounds of food to our Reston office.

👕 Women Giving Back delivered gently used clothing, giving families access to quality items they need.

📦 Behind the scenes, volunteers packed 250 food bags and prepared everything for distribution day.

🏥 We also connected with the Fairfax County Health Department, whose Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP 3.0) links neighbors with vital resources and services.

It all came together on September 19th with a full morning of food distribution, clothing distribution, and health resource tables, serving the community side by side with our partners. None of this happens without collaboration. We’re grateful for every partner and volunteer who helped make this weekend possible.

On September 24, Tzu Chi USA welcomed community members, faith leaders, and advocates to the Tzu Chi Center for a powerful panel discussion on climate change, food insecurity, and the role faith-based organizations play in building sustainable, equitable food systems.

Held in collaboration with Bread for the World, Interfaith Public Health Network, Mercy For Animals, and Chilis on Wheels, the event explored a sobering reality: weather extremes intensified by climate change are already the leading driver of food crises for 87.5 million people worldwide, with marginalized communities and the Global South bearing the heaviest burden.

Panelists examined how shifting toward plant-based and plant-forward diets, rooted in the concept of "thinking globally, acting locally," can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions while improving access to nutrient-dense meals. Drawing on diverse faith, cultural, and community perspectives, the discussion highlighted how faith-based organizations are uniquely positioned to bridge gaps in healthy food access while protecting the planet for future generations.

Guests also enjoyed light plant-based refreshments throughout the evening, a delicious reminder that climate-friendly food can be both nourishing and satisfying.
