We Take Care of Each Other 🌸
Our latest mural, located at Palomar Elementary, .panthers designed by lead artist Josué Baltezar, was created through collaboration with students, staff, and families. Through brainstorming sessions, student drawings, mini mural activities, and community feedback, key themes emerged: the panther mascot, kindness, family connections, nature, and cultural pride.
The design celebrates Palomar as a place where multiple generations of families grow together. A grandparent, parent, and child panther represent this legacy of community, care, and belonging, reflecting the strong intergenerational connections that make the school so special.
Layered throughout the mural are cultural patterns inspired by Indigenous Mexican artwork alongside original designs created by the artist, adding movement, rhythm, and a contemporary feel to the composition. Monarch butterflies symbolize students spreading their wings, pursuing their dreams, and building resilience through challenges.
Agaves, golden poppies, and flowing natural forms connect the mural to Southern California’s landscape while representing the teachers, staff, and community members who help students grow. Together, the mural stands as a vibrant reflection of Palomar’s identity—a place where students are supported, culture is celebrated, and every generation leaves its mark. 💛
Thank you to the for providing the funding to make this project happen for Palomar.
Thank you to all of the Palomar families and students (over 100!) who helped paint this new community mural. ✨
We will gather soon to cut the ribbon and celebrate all who made it happen!
