Act Like You Matter Student-led, solution-driven, anti-bullying empowerment programs for K-12. Act Like You Matter is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in San Diego.

Helping young people find their voice and change the way their generation treats each other, so that each child can rise to their full potential without fear of being bullied. Offering student-led, age-appropriate, anti-bullying programs for K-12 on campus (San Diego County) and live-streamed (Everywhere!). Also offering private Bullying Resilience Coaching and Bullying Prevention Consulting for schools and businesses. We provide the tools that help each person be part of the solution. Mission: To empower young people to find their voice, be part of the solution, and change the way their generation treats each other, so that schools and communities are places of acceptance and tolerance, where empathy and kindness are second nature and each child can rise to their full potential, without fear of being bullied. Help us welcome Nik to our Youth Advisory Board!

Hello. I’m Nikita.

I’m 17 and I study at IMSA in Illinois. I play soccer as a goalkeeper, and I’m especially interested in advocacy and using my voice to support ideas and people that matter. I also enjoy Christopher Nolan movies because they make me think about the bigger picture.

Nikita will also be helping to develop collaborations and partnerships and creating content for social media. We’re so excited to have him on our team!

Wear positive affirmations and encouragement wherever you go! Our Affirmations That Stick collection dropped today and features handwritten messages that uplift both the person wearing it and everyone they encounter.

The sticky note art design was created by Youth Advisory Board member Brooke. When asked about her vision, Brooke shared, “My design is based off of real kind affirmations that people left for other strangers, simply with the intent to brighten their day!”

If someone is rude, mean, or bullying you, you don’t have to just stand there and take it. There are things you can do in the moment to stay calm, take back some control, and figure out what to do next.

Join us in welcoming Roman S. to our Youth Advisory Board!

Hello. I’m Roman. I’m 16 years old and live in California.

I’m passionate about theatre and am looking forward to using performance to spark honest conversations about the issues teens face every day, including bullying.

When I’m not on stage, I enjoy watching movies, playing golf and hanging out with my friends. I am excited to bring my voice to this program and help create a space where every story matters.

Roman will also be researching & applying for grant opportunities for ALYM. We’re so excited to have him on our team!

If your school’s anti-bullying assembly was basically a guy doing magic tricks while saying feel-good catch phrases you’ve heard a billion times already … we feel your pain! 🎩🐇

“Kindness matters, be kind, and don’t bully,” are all true and so important. But none of that tells a 6-year-old what to actually DO the next time someone calls them names, cuts the line, hogs the crayons, or excludes them at recess.

👉 DM this to a teacher who’s heard “be kind” one too many times this week
👉 Tag a fellow educator who’d get a laugh out of this
👉 Save this for the next staff meeting where someone suggests another SEL assembly like this 😅

Back to school challenge for tweens & teens: Look around. Notice who might be struggling. Then DO SOMETHING to help.

✅ See someone sitting alone? Ask to sit with them.
👋 See someone looking uncomfortable or out of place? Say hi.
⭐️ Hear someone being laughed at? Pay them a compliment.
👉 See someone being physically mistreated? Get an adult.

What else can students do to look out for each other at school? Add your idea in the comments 💬

You don’t need to make some huge gesture to make a difference. Small actions can help another person feel seen, supported, and less alone.

So, here’s our challenge: Look for one opportunity to DO SOMETHING this week.

Remind students to value who they are, celebrate what makes them unique, and find happiness in being true to themselves with this empowering self-worth SEL poster. Perfect for Back to School or any time of the year!

The Bee Happy poster was designed by our Youth Advisory Board member Alyssa and is based on a painting she originally made for herself. Alyssa painted words she found inspiring and surrounded them with things she loves. She shared, “I made the painting one day when I was feeling a bit down and needed some positive vibes to brighten up my space.” She placed it on her bookshelves where she could see it every day. It helped her so much that she decided to turn it into a poster so Act Like You Matter could make it available for others to enjoy. enjoy.

When asked what she hopes students will take away from the Bee Happy poster, Alyssa said, “I hope students take away feelings of joy and peace when they see it. With words like be human and be humble, I want this poster to keep them grounded and remind them that they don’t always have to be perfect.”
