This graduation means more than most people will ever understand. 💙🎓

Today we celebrated our high school graduates — young people who have overcome obstacles, trauma, instability, community violence, systems involvement, self-doubt, and every reason to give up… yet still crossed the finish line.

And while we are incredibly proud of every diploma earned, we are equally proud of the culture shift happening behind the scenes.

This school year, Hoover High School experienced ZERO gang fights on campus — something the school reportedly has not seen since the 1930s.

That does not happen by accident.
That happens because young people decided to believe in something different.
Because staff showed up consistently.
Because credible messengers built trust.
Because schools and community partners worked together.
Because prevention, mentorship, accountability, and opportunity matter.

To our students: thank you for allowing us to walk alongside you. Watching your growth this year has been one of the greatest honors.

To our staff and mentors: thank you for showing up every single day with patience, structure, love, and belief in our youth even during the difficult moments.

This is why we do the work.
Not just to help young people survive — but to help them graduate, heal, lead, and change the trajectory of what is possible for future generations.

The future is bright. And these students are proof of that.

Today was a HUGE milestone for Youth Empowerment 💙

We officially celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of our Workforce Development Program — and now our participants begin their internships 👏

This program was created to directly support our reentry workforce population by giving participants access to career development, mentorship, professional skills, and real opportunities to build a future beyond their past circumstances.

We could not do this work without our amazing partnership with Junior Achievement. Thank you for believing in our vision and helping us create pathways for our community. Special thank you to Duchi for your support and leadership throughout this process.

Big shoutout to Jake, our Workforce Development Program Lead. From the moment he joined YE, we knew he was the right person to lead this initiative. The energy, dedication, and care he brings to participants has already made a huge impact.

And thank you to our career mentors Jessie and Cassandra for pouring into this cohort and bringing real-world experience and guidance into the curriculum. Our participants benefited so much from your mentorship and support.

This is just the beginning 🔥
Another cohort launches this fall and we are committed to continuing to build this program into a catalyst for careers, growth, and opportunity for our reentry population.
