Your leader isn’t a mind reader – give them the intel they need to help you do the work you love!

Tell them what lights you up, what energizes you, and what makes you want to make a greater contribution. That gives them the information they need to help you find more opportunities to do what you love.

Yes, it takes a bit of courage (deep breath, you’ve got this ...), but give your leader the GOLD.

It could help them help you create work that is more fulfilling and rewarding for you, which in turn, helps you:

* make a contribution that really matters to you
* achieve your big, audacious goals
* be a kinder, happier, more energized leader, parent and friend.

You may not want to admit it, but your career is something you make sacrifices for. That's why making your career the best it can be, not just for your resume, but for YOU, is so vital to your time here on this planet.

Whatever an "optimized career" means for you, passion is the key to achieving it. Because it's passion that gives us our difference and what helps us contribute in the way only we can.

And, passion fuels and sustains us when the career building journey gets hard!

That's why I've dedicated the last 12+ years to building a global movement to help people harness their passion as the performance superpower that it is! And, keynote speaking is how I share that message...

Serena Williams just gave us a masterclass in pursuing our passions 💜

If you're a skeptic, you could argue that Serena has less to lose than the regular people trying to pay their bills each day.

Sure, you say. It's fine for a multi-millionaire GOAT to show up and have fun, and worry less about the outcomes. (After all, she did win SEVEN Grand Slams before Maya Joint was even born! 🙃)

I choose to be inspired by someone who could gently retire into the good night (h/t Dylan Thomas) but instead, returns to feel that passion again, to GIVE that passion again to those who need it.

In my book, "Born to Buzz.", I share how competence is a hallmark of a harmonious passion (i.e. the passions we want to chase, not the harmful ones.)

I explain how this doesn't mean that we have to Always Be Excelling, despite our high-performing best intentions. It simply means we have a desire to grow and to keep moving forward.

Thank you, Serena, for showing us what a harmonious passion can be.

A leader walked into this "Women in HVAC" event worried that technology was leaving her behind. She was scared that she was no longer relevant, despite her years of experience.

I reminded her that her experience was *precisely* what gave her so much to offer.

She could see connections and work with her teammates in ways that were truly unique. Technology couldn't touch that!

She left the event knowing that her experience WAS her advantage. ✨

Passion isn't just about loving what you do. It's also about embracing your value to make an even greater contribution.

This Women in HVAC program, led by Auer Steel & Heating Supply Company Inc. in partnership with Bryant and Carrier HVAC, continues to invest in the growth of leaders who are often the grit and fuel for their teams.

The topic of this session was the "Uncomfortable Middle. Taking Action As We Grow". Thank you to Colleen Kranz for sharing her lessons in entrepreneurship including how she and her husband Ed built their own plane! Her advice on determination, discipline and purpose inspired us all.

If you know me, you'll know I love Frank Sinatra and that Chicago is ... my kinda town (Sinatra fans, see what I did there?!)

I even got engaged at The Drake - that's a story for another day!... 💍

Bridgewater Bank! What a fantastic EmpowHER event!

This event represented Bridgewater Bank's commitment to womens leadership and its dedication to connection and growth. In fact, women comprise more than half of its Strategic Leadership Team, 53% of its employees and 56% of its managers. 👏

I shared my "Fire to Shine" keynote, where I talk about how our passions can fuel and sustain our ambitions and impact.

We explore the science of passion (yes, it's real!), the barriers we face, and then we used my FIRE framework to rethink how we fuel ourselves.

And finally, I signed a copy of "Born to Buzz" for every single attendee (I love this part, where I have the opportunity to meet everyone, hear their stories, and share encouragement.)

The transformations in the room were immediate, and it was an honor to be part of. I can't wait to see what this team does next!

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror, or heard yourself speak and you think: “who IS this person?”, or “who have I become?” you’ll know what it means to no longer recognize yourself.

It can hurt, badly. At best, it can feel unmooring.

Often it happens because we spend years putting others first while building careers that require us to show up in a certain way. At first, we don’t mind - in fact, we embrace it, but over time, if we don’t reconnect with what lights US up, we can become a shadow of ourselves.
