If you know me, you'll know I love Frank Sinatra and that Chicago is ... my kinda town (Sinatra fans, see what I did there?!)

I even got engaged at The Drake - that's a story for another day!... 💍

So, I'm thrilled to share that I'm the closing keynote for the "Elevate 2026: Leading in the New Reality of Work" conference this September, hosted by Chicago SHRM.

I'll share my keynote, "Work Worth Loving: How Job Crafting Strengthens Energy, Creativity, and Impact" where we'll explore how doing more of what we love can unlock energy, creativity, connection, and stronger performance at work.

I'll show you “job crafting” can help reimagine contribution and fulfillment while strengthening both individual impact and team connection.

Elevate 2026 is a full-day, high-impact conference designed for HR leaders, people managers, and business partners looking to navigate meaningful organizational change.

Elevate's opening keynote is the phenomenal Oscar Munoz, Former CEO & Chairman of United Airlines, Board Director and The Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author. ✨

Bridgewater Bank! What a fantastic EmpowHER event!

This event represented Bridgewater Bank's commitment to womens leadership and its dedication to connection and growth. In fact, women comprise more than half of its Strategic Leadership Team, 53% of its employees and 56% of its managers. 👏

I shared my "Fire to Shine" keynote, where I talk about how our passions can fuel and sustain our ambitions and impact.

We explore the science of passion (yes, it's real!), the barriers we face, and then we used my FIRE framework to rethink how we fuel ourselves.

And finally, I signed a copy of "Born to Buzz" for every single attendee (I love this part, where I have the opportunity to meet everyone, hear their stories, and share encouragement.)

The transformations in the room were immediate, and it was an honor to be part of. I can't wait to see what this team does next!

Afterwards, Bridgewater Bank shared: "Laura created an atmosphere where people felt comfortable engaging openly, and by the end of the session the room was energized, reflective, and motivated to take meaningful action both personally and professionally." 🩷

Got passion? You're going to need its BFF too.

This month's "The Passion Seeker" is all about patience, and why it might be the best thing that ever happened to your passion.

In this edition, I share why passion and patience are connected, and three ways you can nurture it.

It's going to help your leadership, your relationships and your enjoyment of life.

Also, Millie Rose, our 100lb Pyrenees Doodle makes an appearance (any dog owner knows THAT relationship with patience! 😉 )

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror, or heard yourself speak and you think: “who IS this person?”, or “who have I become?” you’ll know what it means to no longer recognize yourself.

It can hurt, badly. At best, it can feel unmooring.

Often it happens because we spend years putting others first while building careers that require us to show up in a certain way. At first, we don’t mind - in fact, we embrace it, but over time, if we don’t reconnect with what lights US up, we can become a shadow of ourselves.

This quick clip from the Leadership Matters podcast, hosted by The Bailey Group shares how we can work through this very common aspect of being human!

If you find yourself hesitating to do more of what you love, remember:

* That first piece of art you create after a few years may not be a Picasso.
* That song you compose may not be Beyonce.
* That role you get on the committee may not be President.
* That social media post you spent hours on may not go viral.

I’m not going to tell you that the outward signs of success don’t matter; of course they do...

However, if our passion is going to stand a chance, we need to go easy on perfection.

We need to give it time to breathe. For us to make mistakes. To be a beginner again.

And, even if we don’t reach majestic, award-winning heights...that doesn’t matter, as long as you feel that ALIVENESS inside of you.

It’s about the feeling you get inside when you’re doing it - that pull, that spark, the reason you keep coming back even when you’re not the “best”.

Keep going, keep exploring, keep doing that thing that lights you up.

We ALL need it!

👉 My passion is firing up audiences to harness this energy and motivation - find more about my keynotes and what clients at the link in the lovely bio.

OK, I admit...I'm proud of this! In this article for Fast Company that went live this morning, I dismantle the misunderstood aspects of passion, sharing the science behind its benefits, and three ways we can activate passion in the workplace.

"In the vanilla-ization of the business world, the differentiators that remain are human. The specific passions of the people in a team, the curiosity, the craft, the unexpected expertise, the deep investment in something that matters to them, are entirely particular to that organization.

No competitor can replicate them; they cannot be bought in or built overnight. They are already there, in the people who show up every day.

Organizations that learn to see this, name it, and create conditions for it to flourish will have something genuinely difficult to compete with.

Passion as a performance strategy is a deliberate commitment to treat the full humanity of a workforce as the competitive asset it actually is."

A fun morning in the studio, helping the legendary David McNally add even more bells and whistles to his fantastic new audiobook version of "If You're Alive: Your Mission on Earth Isn't Finished."

David had already laid down hours of audio, narrating the entire book with his fabulous voice, and asked me to add some introductory lines to help complete the reader's experience.

My answer is always "yes" to David - I admire his decades of work as a global, Hall of Fame speaker, award-winning film producer and bestselling author, helping people thrive in their work and life. 🙏

"If You're Alive" is a guide to aging well, reframing later life as a time for purpose, creativity, and contribution, not decline. The book uses real-life examples, exercises, and reflective questions to help readers discover new passions, share wisdom, build new relationships, and find meaning as they age, encouraging them to "age upward" and see their elder years as a time of rich possibilities.

Scott Wheeler spent 30 years in the technology business, working with some of the world's biggest brands. Now, while living in an entirely different world as the owner of Sports Clips of Dallas, he’s helping others find joy in building their careers.

That, he's discovered, is his true passion.

"I was terrified of taking the risk of owning my own business and being responsible for the employment and income of so many people. I investigated starting or purchasing a business for over a decade and was never confident enough in my own abilities to move forward.

I've found that investing time in getting to know and understand my employees — nearly 50 of them — has profound rewards I didn't expect. The more time I've invested in them over the past three years, the greater my sense of satisfaction in helping them succeed."

If you've ever hesitated to take that leap in your leadership journey, this one's for you!

Thrilled with this feature for the Belfast Telegraph! And, it couldn't have come on a better day: the launch day for Born to Buzz UK edition!

Belfast holds a special place in my heart, having visited there as part of a youth reconciliation exchange in the early 90s. The warmth and generosity of our hosts, along with a humbling wake-up call to the reality of life will always stay with me.

When I wrote this, I thought of those who had welcomed us with such open hearts. ❤️

"To be happy, you must eliminate two things:
The fear of a bad future
And the memory of a bad past."
- Attributed to Seneca.

As a lifelong worrier, this quote always helps me remember that happiness demands our presence, and it needs our focus on the GOOD.

This is where "harmonious passions" can act like literal rocket fuel, to motivate and energize us and our lives.

Plus, science has proven that when we do more of what we love, we ALL benefit. That to me, is happiness ☀️
