Shelter to Soldier Shelter to Soldier adopts dogs from local rescues and shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs for post-9/11 veterans with PTSD, TBI & MST.

Shelter to Soldier is a CA 501c3 nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from local shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs for post-9/11 combat veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or other psychological injuries associated with traumatic service experiences.

New dog, new mission. 🐾

The name’s Anew, and I just officially joined the Shelter to Soldier training crew. I’m 10 months old, an eager to learn Pit Bull mix, and I was originally rescued by our good friends at 💙 Now, I’ve got a whole team in my corner including my Red Star Sponsor After Parts & Sales who made this whole experience - from adoption through my training program and future graduation with a Veteran who needs me - a reality!

I’ve got my basic obedience down and I’m already fully bonded with my new family - the STS team. Treats and toys? Absolutely my love language. Tell me there’s a reward at the end and I am ALL in! They say I’m doing a great job in my first phase of training, too! ⭐️

I’m not the type to run in barking about it. I’ll just show up, pay attention, and make sure the person who needs me most knows I’ve got them.

Big thanks to Wags & Walks for getting me here, and to After Parts Sales & Service for making this next chapter possible for me. I am SO excited! My veteran is out there and I’m on my way!

Maverick and USN Veteran Michael are continuing their journey through our service dog training program, building the skills that create confidence, independence, and real-world readiness.

Every training moment in public spaces like this helps strengthen focus, communication, and trust between handler and dog, skills that matter most when it counts.

As they prepare for their final milestone - graduation! - we are more grateful than ever for the support that makes this work possible. Gratitude doesn’t even begin to cover it. 💙🐾🇺🇸

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Paul Schultheis for opening both his yacht and his beautiful Newport Beach home to bring together friends, family, and supporters for an unforgettable evening benefiting Shelter to Soldier, and for hosting STS team members Nicky, Shelby, Emily and Tommy alongside service dogs in training Bailey, Dawson and Boomer for an evening of harbor fun and impact!

Through his generosity, leadership, and passion for our mission, Paul not only helped raise awareness about the critical issues of veteran mental health and dog rescue, but also made an extraordinary personal commitment by donating $50,000 to support the rescue, care, and training of two future service dogs through our program.

His support will also help nourish the 45 rescue dogs currently in training and 3-4 more we hope to adopt in the next 4 weeks - through our food pantry, ensuring they have the fuel they need as they prepare for lives of service supporting veterans, active-duty military members, and military families.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, learned more about our mission, and chose to be part of the impact. It is because of compassionate supporters like Paul and this amazing community that we are able to continue Saving Lives, Two at a Time.
