🤖 With use of Artificial Intelligence increasing, it's important to make sure we're protected as educators and as workers!

💬 Can you take 5 minutes to share your voice on how AI is shaping your work? http://bit.ly/education-ai-impact

Our community partners at The Center on Policy Initiatives are collecting educator insight through this survey that will identify issues and inform policy solutions.

In our most recent union contract, SDEA members won AI protections for the first time in Article 2, along with a new Joint Committee to develop recommendations for parameters around the use of AI Systems. As this technology develops quickly, our protections need to develop quickly!

Earlier this week, on Monday May 4, we filled City Hall as part of the Community Budget Alliance to fight for a People’s Budget, where everyone has what they need to thrive. All evening San Diegans stepped up to tell City Council and Mayor Gloria 👀 that his proposed cuts go against what residents truly need. We also called on the City to reclaim funding going to police and stop pouring money into the systems that criminalize and surveil our communities.

📣 Come out to the next City of San Diego Evening Budget hearing on May 18 to keep the pressure and make it known that this is our city, our public dollars, and our budget!!!

Check out our page for ways to have your voice heard see and join us at the County budget workshop on May 21 to join us in a fight for the people’s budget at the County of San Diego. More info here: cpisandiego.org/cba

In a time where our own federal government is trying to take away our rights, we need to speak out to ensure we all have the rights we deserve.

📣 Tomorrow October, 21st at 9 am, the County Board of Supervisors will be discussing the Civil Liberties and Accountability Rules Ordinance, which would ensure that ALL San Diegans have the right to due process.

Make sure your voice is heard and tell the Board of Supervisors that we have a right to due process and they must protect San Diegans.

☀️ This summer, we collaborated with San Diego area high school students and teaching artist Delana Delgado on a project exploring safety and what it means to students. CPI and Delana facilitated workshops where students used poetry, film photography and mixed media art to convey their ideas of safety and the hopes and future they envision for their schools and community. From September 27-October 4th, student art will be on display at along with some copies of a student zine. We invite you to come out, support a local business and check out the art, photography and writing that this amazing group of artists and young leaders helped create. ☀️

Big shout out to for their support with this project and for the guidance of the coaches that helped us along the way!

Across the country Trump and his administration are attacking the working-class through an all out assault on workers and the protections we’ve fought for. Its no surprise that raids are happening at workplaces.

We are at a critical period, where showing up as a collective will show billionaires and their friends that People Power is greater than any attempts to take away our rights. As we step into the weekend and opportunities for collective action, take a moment to see how we can stop the spread of fascism and the consolidation of power and money that the current administration is pushing for.

📣 Join us on Saturday, June 14 at 10am at Waterfront Park to march with thousands of other San Diegans and plug in with us for future actions, political educations and to connect with other working class people in the fight against fascism. 📣

Check out this op-ed by long time CPI friend, labor advocate and professor Jim Miller to see how workers in our country are being affected by these attempts to take our rights, wages and visibility.

The mayor’s May Revise included more investments in policing instead of investments in people and our planet.

Mayor Gloria is prioritizing criminalizing and punishing working-class people, immigrant and refugee communities and San Diego’s youth and calling it public safety. This budget continues to show his lack of interest in addressing climate change and its devastating effects on Black, Brown and working-class communities. Our communities are underinvested in and are denied the support to thrive.

We call on city council to push for more equitable and substantial adjustments to the budget. Parks, recreation centers, prevention measures for communities impacted by climate change, access to our city’s libraries are among some of the ways we can actually address public safety. Criminalizing and continuing to budget off the backs of Black and Brown working class communities is not the answer.

Join us TODAY May 19th to stand up and make sure City Council knows that the cuts targeting our communities should be restored and other revenue measures should be taken. For talking points and suggested comments: www.cpisandiego.org/take-action-with-the-community-budget-alliance-fy26

Kids across San Diego will be impacted by cuts that Mayor Todd Gloria announced in his proposed budget last month. The Mayor’s budget denies San Diego’s kids a chance to thrive. Reducing homework help programs, and reducing the opportunities brought forth by the Office of Child and Youth Success, are just two of the many ways the Mayor plans to leave San Diego’s kids behind.

As our federal government attempts to eliminate the department of education, we cannot allow the Mayor to do the same. San Diego’s kids deserve to have support services, opportunities, and ways to express themselves in their libraries and recreation centers.
