We are thrilled to have Executive Chef Ashley McBrady taking the helm of MAKE Cafe and all our culinary adventures to come!

Chef Ashley comes to us from an extensive background in fine dining restaurants throughout San Diego, Portland and Denver. She also brings a commitment to local producers and a zeal to build MAKE Cafe into a vibrant third space for the community. At MAKE Projects, we promise more than just a meal. Our dishes are crafted with fresh, locally sourced ingredients — cardamom from this region, cilantro from that farm, yogurt from down the road — and shaped by the food traditions that San Diegans have been carrying, sharing, and making their own for generations.

Every bite supports sustainable agriculture and empowers refugee and immigrant women. By dining with us, you're gathering at a table that brings all of us together — across cultures, across backgrounds, over the flavors we already love. This is food that feels good and does good.

Food insecurity is something many families in our community are facing right now. The Community Food Kitchen (CFK), a pilot from MAKE Projects supported by Price Philanthropies through the San Diego Unity Fund, is one way we’re responding.

Over the next six months, the goal is to prepare and share 50,000 ready-to-enjoy soups and stews, made by staff and community volunteers, and distributed directly to those who need them most. But it doesn’t stop at meals. During distribution, individuals can also connect to job readiness support, employment services, and community college resources.

This effort is made possible with support from local farms, food retailers, and community members donating quality ingredients. MAKE's bigger goal is to build something that other communities can learn from and adapt. Because when people come together like this for one another, it builds connection, trust, and a stronger, more resilient community.

If you’d like to be part of it:
• Donate ingredients (vegetables, coconut milk, spices, lentils, beans)
• Volunteer your time in the kitchen or support job readiness efforts

Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 21 at MAKE Farm from 9-11:30am. Farmer Kelly has a ton of plants starts to kickstart your spring summer garden! Our cafe trainees will be running a pop-up farm mocktails bar testing some fresh recipes to debut later at MAKE Cafe.
We will also open house our CSA and kids camps so you can get healthy, fit and set for summer childcare needs.
