We build community power through housing and tenant rights, environmental justice, LGBTQ rights, civic engagement, arts & culture, and business development. Visions from a Diamond Eye is inspired by elemental gifts of the Babaylan (seer/spiritual guide) as described in artist Perla Paredes Daly’s decolonial essay in Back from the Crocodile’s Belly. The artist bridges and reclaim this receptive power through the dreaming body as a divine ancestral bearer —an interplay of tension and release through sensuality and gentility.

Through travelling parallel realities, messages murmur with honest possibilities, as her process is birthed from first being a witness then as a channel. Together, her paintings and video projection move from initiation into animating a translucent metamorphosis that croons ancestral communication —purging out quiet and arousing energies swathed from the subliminal.

void_oceania is a synthetic sea that responds directly to your presence, it’s tides, waves, and sounds shifting with your breath, movement, and warmth.

This real-time ocean functions as a digital twin of the artist’s ancestral shoreline in Humåtak, Guåhan. The work actively confronts the forces of erasure that threaten both physical shorelines and cultural histories. It deconstructs the gallery space to examine how deep memory survives under conditions of ecological and existential uncertainty.

The installation records audience breath and movement as a vessel to examine the ‘void’ of diaspora: the deep ache of absence and separation from one’s homeland.

The Thinning of the Veil (or, The Angels Appeared in a Form Most Familiar) is an installation of textile and paper that articulates the origins of Mumtaz’s central exercise in faith-making, ultimately offering a widely applicable framework for self-canonization.

Mumtaz calls to the gallery two ‘Angels,’ fabric-adorned and faceless in vivid pink, as drawn paper cutouts flush against the wall. Sheer curtains of a similar hue are all that stand between the viewer and these apparitions, functioning as a type of scrying technology or revelatory threshold. Curtains emerge from a recurring interest in fabric as the primary apparatus for visualizing inner worlds and projecting fantasy onto the mundane.

Acting as a manual for repurposing schematics of faith, the work asks: What would it mean to afford yourself the freedom to mythologize your memory? If you let yourself stare for long enough, what would appear behind the curtain?
