Excited to see another new business opening at Rolando Plaza, Blossom & Bloom Creative Arts, with a mission to provide accessible and inclusive dance education. They're a 501(c)(3), so financial aid is available to all who request it.

They are still enrolling for fall classes and stay tuned for details about their grand opening on September 19th! We will be there!

Rolando Park Movie in the Park Recap

Happy tired today. Another amazing night for our community.

Many thanks to our Rolando Park Elementary PTA for partnering with us to make this event possible. Great glow jewelry this year.

Our preshow activities continue to grow. Principal Noriega had her book giveaway table. Also joined by the Rolando Park Fire Safe Council, who surprised us all by arranging a visit from Fire Truck #10. An instant magnet for the kids (and many adults).

Some plugs for our vendors. All of them brought their A game. If you’ve seen our community banners on University Ave, you know that we support local businesses, so very happy to have our own Tacos & Catering El Bad Hombre who never disappoint. Those tacos! Gelu Italian Ice is our favorite treat to cool down on another hot day.

Jasmine, Zink Face Painting, was amazing. Lots of happy, painted kids running around.

Happys Party Rentals arrived early and very quiet when taking down their equipment and leaving after the movie started. We didn’t even know that they were there!

Big thank you to Colina del Sol Recreation Center who help us with all of the logistics, permits, promotions, etc. to stage this event and the Fun Company who work through the City of San Diego parks and rec dept to set up and show the summer run of Movies in the Park. Always on time and so organized.

Also joined this year by representatives from New York Life who are one of the corporate sponsors for the County’s Movie in the Park program. This year, the county funded more than 100 movie in the park events. We’re lucky to be one of them.

We hope that everyone who attended had a good time. Thank you for respecting the event and our park; 99.9 percent of last night’s trash made it to one of the trash cans and there was very little cleanup this morning.

Oh, and the movie was great!

We will see you again next August!

Know what we have for tonight's Movie in the Park that we didn't have last year?

Parking! Plenty of it this year.

Thank you, Principal Noriega, for pushing to get the parking lot almost back to normal in time for the first day of school and our movie night.

Hope to see you tonight, pre-show stuff starts around 5'ish.

Reminder - Rolando Park's Annual Movie in the Park, Saturday, August 8th

This is our 5th year of co-hosting our annual movie in the park event with our community partner, Rolando Park Elementary PTA.

This year, we're showing "The Wild Robot." Great movie for everyone.

Preshow activities start at 5pm with the movie starting at dusk.
• We’ll have face painting - Zink Art SD Face Painting
• Jumper/slide for the kids
• The PTA will be selling glow jewelry.
• Rolando Park Elementary Principal Noriega will have a table with free books.
• Rolando Park’s own Tacos & Catering El Bad Hombre will be selling street tacos and Gelu Italian Ice.
• You are always free to bring your own food.
• Blankets and beach/lawn chairs only, NO tents or canopies on the lawn.
• Leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Should be a fun night!

Backpack Giveaway & Resource Fair on Saturday, August 8, 2026

State Senator Weber Pierson is hosting the 14th Annual Backpack Giveaway & Resource Fair at O’Farrell Charter School.

When: 8am – 10am
What: Backpack distribution and resource fair (all free)

Children must be present to receive a backpack.

During the workshops, participants will learn about how the City operates, what the City’s Strategic Plan goals are, and how community members can participate in City decision-making.

Update from SANDAG
Whether you love or hate this project, our intent is just to share information so that you can plan accordingly.

University Avenue Bikeway Project – Overnight Work and Traffic Changes on University Avenue

This Wednesday, July 29, crews will work during the overnight hours on University Avenue between 60th Street to 69th Street. After this work is completed, construction will move from the center of the road to the outside lanes along the south side of University Avenue.

Access to businesses, homes, and driveways will be maintained and crews will take steps to minimize the impact of construction activities whenever possible.

For your safety, always use approved crossing locations and follow all posted signage and directions from on-site flaggers. We encourage you to plan accordingly and stay alert in the construction area.

Work schedules will vary and may include evenings and weekends.

Please note construction schedules are subject to change.

What to Expect
• The intersection at Aragon Drive and University Avenue will be closed to drivers traveling straight through and turning left.
• Traffic will be moved into a new lane configuration
• Parking on the south side of University Avenue between 60th Street to 69th Street will be temporarily unavailable
• Vehicle and pedestrian detours
• Travel delays
• Nearby residents, businesses, and travelers can expect intermittent noise (including OSHA-required back-up alarms), dust, and lights as our crews complete this work.

Rolando Park Elementary Joint Use Park parking lot cleanup

In spite of the heat, what a turnout this morning! Thank you, volunteers: Pete, Nora, Sonia, Whitney, Maggie, Mary Beth, Gerrie, James, Vickie, Arlo, Igor, Saphire, Claire, Finn, Ann, Olivia, Josiah, Miles, Evan, and Lynn.

In addition to the trash pickup, we filled 35 green waste cans! We filled the school's green dumpster and even sent some home with volunteers.

Of course, there’s always more to do. But we are very proud of our community and school volunteers who show up for our events and make our community and school a little cleaner each time.

If any of our volunteers who will be attending can bring their yard green waste can, it would be appreciated! We'll be filling our green cans and then trucking them over to the school's green dumpster. See you Saturday!
