Share Your ideas for Infrastructure Priorities for 2026

It’s time for our annual survey on infrastructure priorities for our community. We submit a list through our planning group, Eastern Area Communities Planning Committee (EACPC), every year to the city and requested priorities then work their way through the city process to determine if they qualify and will become an infrastructure project.

Think long-term projects that require project development and construction like storm drainage and flood control, libraries, parks and recreation centers, sidewalk improvements.

The almost completed water and sewer pipe replacement project in Rolando Park is an infrastructure project.

The sidewalk on College from Livingston to Judy McCarty Way is an infrastructure project that EACPC submitted to the city on our behalf several years ago. The next section from Judy McCarty Way to Billman starts next year.

We look forward to seeing your ideas. The survey is available until June 30th at https://tinyurl.com/3d7pzzc4

Live in the Eastern Area but not a Rolando Park resident? Visit the EACPC website and complete the survey for your community.

We’ll share the final submitted list at our September meeting.

Explore infrastructure priorities for Eastern Area Communities and share your ideas to enhance local capital improvement programs.

Today’s University Ave Cleanup

First, thanks to all of our incredible volunteers today: Bettina, Joyce, Vickie, Lynn, Tim, John, and Danny. We were also joined by Anisa from our Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera's office. Thanks again to Anisa for coordinating the trash bag pickup for us with Environmental Services.

This was a day to feel discouraged, frustrated, and in the end, rewarded for our work. We set up in front of the vacant lot at University/60th, a lot owned by the City of San Diego. The city does have maintenance responsibilities for its property. A Get It Done was submitted two weeks ago to get the remnants of homeless encampments cleaned up at the lot before our cleanup. Sadly, that didn’t happen.

Our community cleanups are focused on trash pickups on sidewalks and curbs. We don’t want to clean to the level that we did today. But after cleaning the sidewalks from College to 58th, except for one section at College, where a homeless fellow was proprietary about his pile of trash, we circled back to the lot. Honestly, no one felt good about our efforts to clean the sidewalks and then walk away leaving the lot looking like that. We all dug in and managed to finish cleaning it by our 10 am deadline when Environmental Services came to pick up our trash.

This lot still needs brush abatement work and more, but does it look better than it did this morning? Yes, it does!

Redwood Village Community Council leaders have made converting this lot into a small pocket park for the community a priority for this year and we’re getting some help from our D9 office and Groundwork San Diego Chollas Creek to move this project forward. Stay tuned.

Thank you, community

Great crowd last night at our ice cream social! More than 90 people, plus our very well-behaved furry family members, enjoyed some great ice cream (and puppucinos) and all kinds of conversations.

Many, many thanks to board member Joyce, who hosted the social.

This is what a community event looks like. Can’t wait until next year.

Thank you to our First Sunday volunteers today at the Gateway!

Great group: Judy, Pete, Liz, Mike, Joyce, Audrey, Debbi, and Lynn. It's amazing what a difference we make in an hour. The Gateway and the Rolando Park side of College from the 94 to Meridian look much better.

See you next month!

University Ave Street Sweep, Saturday, June 13, 8 to 10 am

What better way to burn off some of those calories from Monday's Ice Cream Social than to join us Saturday morning for a street cleanup?

Meet up at University/60th, southeast corner. Come when you can, stay as long as you can, until 10 am.

And if you don't get your sugar fix at our Ice Cream Social, we always have donuts and snacks at our cleanups. 😊

Next Monday, June 8th, is our annual Ice Cream Social!

It’s open to the community and this year, we’re encouraging leashed, well-behaved dogs to also join us. In addition to our usual assortment of ice cream treats, we’ll also have puppucinos for our furry family members.

Drop by on Monday, 6:30-8 pm, Rolando Park Elementary front courtyard and parking lot, and have some ice cream on us and meet some of your neighbors.

County Fair banners are up!

Every year, we partner with the County Fair and temporarily replace our community identity banners with banners that help promote the County Fair. This is one of the fun events that we look forward to every year, partnering with Rolando Park Elementary and giving some of our kids a chance to shine. They never disappoint.

This year was challenging because of the construction on University Ave and the banner installer warned us that they might not be able to place some of the banners because of the location (no parking available). Well, they went above and beyond and were able to install all of them. Huge thanks to Dekra-Lite Industries Inc! A small sampling, banners are located on College Ave from the 94 to University and on University from College to 69th.

How can State Route (SR) 94 better serve you?

SANDAG and Caltrans are seeking community input to help identify areas for improvement along the SR 94 corridor and improve safety, traffic flow, transit access, biking and walking connections, and overall transportation along the corridor.

If you live, work, or travel along SR 94, be sure to take the survey and share your feedback to help shape future improvements.
