On this adventure, we cross paths with countless amazing souls and families. Juan was one of the gems Scott discovered early in his LVAD journey. From day one, Scott and Juan hit it off, with Juan cheering Scott on throughout the process. Juan supported foundation events, always picking up Scott’s calls, and becoming a treasured friend. In 2017, we were thrilled to honor him with our Ambassador of the Year Award. We’re deeply grateful for Juan and his passion for the LVAD and heart transplant community. Juan, you’ll be missed more than words can say.

Next month we’re celebrating a major milestone - Scott’s 10-year heart transplant anniversary, or his "heart birthday". Our goal is to sell 400 shirts to represent Scott and the 400th heart transplant at Sharp Memorial, and we’re offering a $400 raffle to everyone who buys one. Shirts are $25, available in all sizes, and can be delivered or mailed.

Today Scott and his crew volunteered at the La Jolla Half Marathon finish line to raise money for Team SoCal Transplant Games. The Transplant Games are scheduled for Denver in summer 2026. Peter is celebrating four months post-heart transplant after 16 months with an LVAD. Manny recently marked his one-year heart transplant anniversary after six months with an LVAD. Scott has enjoyed forming strong bonds with these two gentlemen.

Today, we joyfully celebrate Scott once again for an important milestone: his LVAD birthday! On this day in 2013, Scott received his LVAD, marking a turning point that transformed his life and initiated his second chance at living.

We are grateful for the years Scott has spent with the LVAD, during which he welcomed multiple grandchildren, became a mentor in the community, and forged meaningful connections with numerous LVAD recipients!

Join us in giving Scott a cheerful birthday shout-out, as he loves to commemorate every birthday and milestone throughout the year!
