From our first Thanksgiving dinner in 2008, we have continued to grow and currently have 20+ volunteers, including 5 cooks! Since our inception we've hosted 3 feeding sites around South county including North Bonita South Chula Vista and our original site Project 1:1 Imperial Beach. Patrick and Katrina Smith did such an amazing job ministering to and befriending our unsheltered friends in the "Ju
ngle" located near Plaza Bonita that they have taken the reigns and now Urban Refuge oversees that meal site. . With the demands of Covid19 and the changing times Project 1:1 and our volunteers were stretched, trying to meet the needs of not only our homeless friends but also families in crisis through sickness and unemployment due to the virus. With the assistance of the San Diego food bank and collaborating with other nonprofits we were able to distribute Food around the county to those in need. Although providing for the masses was rewarding, we soon realized that it was not what we were called to do. So,yet again we have scaled back, focusing in on what we believe is our purpose. Our logo defines our heart; Each one reach 1 each one love 1.. As 2020 comes to an end we have a clear vision moving forward into the New Year. We are to minister to our homeless community and realize that every opportunity is not a calling. There are many amazing people within our community that can fill those shoes. If down the road the Lord changes our direction we are more than willing but for now we will continue to love on this amazing group of homeless people that we lovingly call our "homeless homies"
Through the relationships we have made at these dinners, we have been able to provide additional assistance, such as helping to get people off the streets and into rehab programs, and connecting them with other community services through our collaboration with the county of San Diego and other like minded non profit partners.. Because we are a faith based organization we feel that it is just as important that we feed their souls as well as their physical bodies.
