The Kearny Community Foundation, also operating as the Kearny Komet Foundation, serves as the PTO/Foundation supporting the current students, staff, and administration of the Kearny High Educational Complex.
Many of you attended Kearny and may have had very different experiences during your time there. Today, many programs, activities, and needs that were once funded by the district are no longer fully funded. Increasingly, it falls to the school community—families, alumni, community members, businesses, and other stakeholders—to help fill those gaps.
That is where the Kearny Community Foundation comes in.
We fund, or help fund, needs that directly benefit today's Kearny students and school community. This includes clubs, athletic teams, special events, student and staff recognition, awards, dinners and lunches, campus activities, and other needs that might otherwise go unfunded.
For clarification, our legal 501(c)(3) name is Kearny Community Foundation, and we operate as both Kearny Community Foundation and Kearny Komet Foundation. A separate, earlier organization also used the Kearny Komet Foundation name but is no longer in operation. Our current organization is separate from and is not a continuation of that former Foundation.
At one time, we considered expanding our role to support the entire Kearny “Cluster”—Kearny High and the feeder schools that ultimately serve the Kearny community. That broader vision contributed to the use of “Community” in our name.
Our mission is also distinct from that of the Kearny High Alumni Association. The Alumni Association serves an important role in connecting Kearny alumni and preserving the history, relationships, and traditions of Kearny. Our Foundation's primary mission is to support the students attending Kearny today, along with the staff and administration who serve them.
Our missions are distinct, but they complement one another. Our goal is for every student we support today to someday become a Kearny alumnus—and that's a very positive thing.
We appreciate everyone who cares about Kearny—whether you graduated decades ago, have a student attending today, work on campus, own a local business, or simply want to see Kearny students succeed.
There is room for all of us to support Kearny, and ultimately, we all want the same thing: to see Kearny and its students succeed.
Once a Komet, always a Komet.
