The Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) promotes public interest law by providing education, volunteer opportunities and scholarship funds for public interest work to fellow students. Public interest law includes, but is not limited to, issues concerning child advocacy, consumer action, disability advocacy, domestic violence, education, elderly rights, environmental issues, gay/lesbian/bisexual

rights, HIV/AIDS, homeless assistance, immigrants' rights, Legal Aid, mediation and negotiation, mental health advocacy, minority issues and Veterans' affairs. The foundation has established a grant fund to facilitate student participation in public interest positions, which would otherwise be pro bono. The foundation is also establishing a loan repayment assistance program for recent PILF member graduates, which is essential to remove the economic barriers that confront future public interest lawyers by making a career in public services more financially feasible.

The second board member we would like to introduce to you all is Jennifer, the new PILF secretary! Here is a message from Jennifer on why she joined PILF:

"I joined PILF because my law school career has been motivated by a strong interest in public service and wanting to help those who are most in need. My field of interest is in criminal law and I see first hand how the criminal legal system mistreats both accused and victims. I hope to help PILF this semester in being a great student organization."

We are very happy to have Jennifer on our board :)

We are happy to introduce Aljona, the new PILF Treasurer! Here is a message from Aljona on her decision to join the PILF board:

“During my undergraduate years at UT Austin, I had the opportunity to fundraise for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Austin. Through CASA, I was able to see the importance of advocacy and access to justice that is driven by fundraising and volunteer work. I joined PILF to further my contributions to communities in need.”

CALLING ALL 3LS! The Josi Dixon Post Bar Grant application is now open!!!

The application can be accessed through symplicity and is due on March 11, 2022. Here are some of the requirements for applying:
• Must be a PILF dues paying member
• Must graduate in Fall 2021 or Spring 2022
• Must be in good academic standing
• Must dedicated 5 service hours to PILF (meetings count and if you need more please contact us about helping to send donation emails!)
• Must have some experience in the public interest field
