The Rescued Dog The Rescued Dog is a 501(c)3, all breed dog rescue based in San Diego, California, dedicated to finding forever homes for dogs in high kill shelters.

The founders of The Rescued Dog forged our bond during our volunteer work together at a local dog rescue. We recognized in each other a mutual respect for our human friends and the dogs we were helping to rescue. When the time came to start our own rescue, our collective mission was clear: save at-risk dogs from high-kill shelters and place them in loving, forever homes for the benefit of the dogs

and humans alike. We believe the best way to end pet overpopulation and animal cruelty is a unified front with local shelters, other rescue groups and the community. While The Rescued Dog is currently a foster-based rescue, our long-term goal is to have a kennel and training facility, which will enable us to increase our number of rescues and take time to train and, if needed, rehabilitate dogs in need. The founders of The Rescued Dog are committed to saving the right dogs for the right people, and offering support and education to ensure a successful forever situation for both our dogs and the humans who adopt them. A Bittersweet Farewell from TRD
After 12 incredible years, our small, volunteer-run rescue is coming to a close. While it’s hard to say goodbye, our hearts are full as we look back on the journey — over 1,300 dogs rescued and placed with loving families across the country. 🐾❤️
What began as a labor of love grew into a beautiful community built on compassion, teamwork, and tireless dedication. Every successful adoption, every saved life, every happy tail wag was made possible by YOU — our amazing supporters.
To those who opened your homes as fosters, organized and attended fundraising events, wore our swag with pride, or simply cheered us on in person and online — thank you. Your kindness and generosity gave so many dogs the second chances they deserved.

We may be closing this chapter, but the impact we’ve made together will live on in every adopted pup curled up on a couch, chasing tennis balls, or being unconditionally loved.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in us. 💛🐶
