811 Followers. One Goal. Double the Impact. 🚀

We’re putting out a challenge to our incredible community. Imagine the power of us all moving in the same direction: If every one of our 811 followers contributes just $20, we’ll raise over $16,000 for our mission.

But here is the best part: Our Board of Directors has pledged to MATCH that total if we hit our goal. That means your $20 becomes $40. Your collective $16,000 becomes $32,000.

Are you up for the challenge? Let’s show everyone that we are Together Strong.

The latest construction update:
Internal plastering and moulding are complete. Column moulding is on hold until grills are installed, to avoid rework.

The construction team is doing some of the finishing work on the Saint Clara School Atrium walls. For those that don’t know Kenya, we went with an atrium, basically a covered courtyard in this case, as Kenya has dry and rainy seasons as opposed to summer, spring, winter, and fall. Kenya straddles the equator so winter isn’t a thing there anyhow. If it’s cold enough to snow that means you’re probably at or near the peak of Mt Kenya. So, the roof over the courtyard allows the school to easily have student body gatherings in the rainy season without everyone getting cold and wet. The building engineer designed it with ventilation and a mix of solid and transparent panels to allow sufficient light and allow adequate airflow. I look forward to seeing in person.

I don’t recall what I had in mind when Caroline first mentioned Agui’s (William Lelei’s) vision to build a school in 2011 (I think it was 2011). I remember being a bit skeptical as I didn’t have the background for this kind of project, much less to come up with all the excellent ideas from Julius (our builder/contractor) and his team. I’m glad to have had the opportunity to be a part of this vision.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month the guns went silent. Remembrance Day (UK), Armistice Day now called Veterans Day (US) was intended to mark the end of the Great War, the war to end all wars. It’s now known as World War 1 and quite obviously was not the end of war. I do think it’s possible for the human race to get past this appetite for destruction. One of the ways to do this is to make sure we all have an opportunity to succeed. That’s the part that we at TLF are trying to address (opportunity through education). In the meantime we honor those that have served. Thank you to our veterans and our active duty service members for all that you do.
