🌳“Rooted in community” was our 1-year celebration of environmental & Community stewardship at Chollas creekside park. Looking back at where we started, this park has come such a long way.🪏

🪄Over 100 volunteers, record-breaking stewardship at ccp!

🌈over 600 lbs worth of invasive plants, litter, and bulky waste removed

🫂so many new faces came to our community park and shared space with us; it was incredible.

💫Thank you to our vendors + exhibitors that came through!

🌷We had so much fun at our first Earth Day Extravaganza back in April, we want to bring it back again with you all this Fall season. 🎃

🌳This time with a couple new activites, art reveal, and the same great free coffee from Grinds & Grooves.

Join us at Chollas Creekside Park on Saturday, Sept 19th (9 AM - 1 PM) for a high-energy morning of stewardship and celebration throughout the day. 🌅

Hosted by the Urban Collaborative Project (UCP) and Groundwork San Diego - Chollas Creek (Groundwork San Diego ), this community-led event brings together local youth, residents, and key partners to celebrate environmental stewardship, community connection, and local resources.

Volunteer Activities: Expect to get your hands dirty, actively walk, and carry tools through our many fun environmental stewardship activities!

Volunteer Materials: This is a suggested list, not required unless mentioned.
Bring your own gloves; otherwise, we have a limited supply.

Closed-toe walking shoes are required.

🧠 The City of San Diego will be joining us to share information about their Resiliency Hub project. The Resiliency Hub project is focused on identifying one City facility to serve as a pilot Resiliency Hub that can better support residents during power outages, extreme heat, and other climate-related emergencies, as well as during blue-sky scenarios.

🌎The Urban Collaborative Project (UCP) is hosting a Health and Environmental Justice themed Resident Leadership Academy (RLA). Participants will partake in a 10 week learning series facilitated by local leaders and educators, and will work together to develop a Community Improvement Project (CIP) focused on health and environmental justice in Southeastern San Diego.🍎

Why apply?
✨Learn the fundamentals on a variety of interdisciplinary environmental science topics.
✨Develop a Community Improvement Project to drive sustainable community change in Southeastern San Diego.
✨Build transferable leadership and community organizing skills with a network of dedicated like-minded individuals.
✨ Earn up to 2 certificates upon completion of this program.
RLA Certificate of Completion (provided by UCP)
optional Carbon Literacy Certificate (provided by IGC)

We made it through the heat this past weekend with our lovely volunteers and watered all our plants thanks to our friends at San Diego Canyonlands.

Next time you visit Chollas Creekside there are plenty of newly painted rocks by our volunteers & the support from the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department department.
