ATTENTION! JUST IN: The Trump administration is suing to overturn CA state laws intended to prevent cruelty against egg-laying chickens.

The administration says these laws have driven up egg prices and are preempted by a 1970 federal law.

Do NOT feed your pets RAW FOOD alert!

Epidemiologists, food safety experts and veterinarians worry that pets could provide a potential springboard for H5N1 to evolve into a human threat. They are warning pet owners against feeding their animals raw food.

As researchers scramble to understand the extent of H5N1 bird flu spread, there's one group of animals they say we should pay special attention to: Our pets.

FYI - Late La Jolla resident Karen Cooper was an animal lover her entire life. And to honor that, her widower, Bob Cooper, is establishing a foundation that is going to the dogs. Literally.

Bob Cooper's new charity, Angel of the Forgotten, donates more than 1,000 dog toys and treats to area shelters and humane societies in memory of his wife, Karen.

So, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that the law was unconstitutional, stands.
"The Supreme Court will not weigh in on the constitutionality of a North Carolina law that allows employers to sue employees who make undercover video or audio recordings. The denial of review in North Carolina Farm Bureau v. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and Stein v. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals came as part of a list of orders – mostly denying review – released on Monday morning from the justices’ Oct. 13 conference. The court had previously granted review in four cases from that conference last Friday.
The law at the center of the North Carolina cases was enacted in 2015 in response to a dispute between ABC News and the grocery chain Food Lion in the 1990s. PETA and other food-safety and animal-welfare groups challenged the law, arguing that it violates the First Amendment. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit agreed with the challengers that the law is unconstitutional when applied to the groups’ efforts to gather news.
North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein and a trade association representing North Carolina farmers asked the Supreme Court to review the 4th Circuit’s ruling. The justices considered the case at three consecutive conferences, but ultimately denied review without comment."

The striking footage showed the pair of gray whales huddled together near the surface get surrounded by orcas that appear to strike, followed by pools of blood in the water. Monterey Bay Whale Watch said the gray whales ultimately survived the attack but were badly injured.

Six of the killer whales captured in extraordinary footage in Monterey Bay were the same orcas that attacked two gray whales months prior.

Orcas keep slamming into boats off the Spanish coast, sinking some of them, leading researchers to believe they might be driven by a single revenge-bent female.

Three boats have been struck over the past few weeks in the Strait of Gibraltar, sinking two of them. The most recent attack occurred on May 4, and involved three orcas, eventually leading to the yacht sinking.

Researchers think that these increasing attacks may be due to the influence of a single female orca named White Gladis, who initiated the attacks. She may have caused the other orcas to learn from her behavior and follow suit.

A single traumatized female orca could be the originator of recent boat attacks, leading the others to copy her behavior.

Our Story

San Diego Animal Advocates was an all-volunteer, non-profit 501©3 animal rights organization founded in 1984. Our purpose was to educate the public on issues concerning animals, with a focus on problems of captivity, vivisection, and local area wildlife. While we worked primarily on matters in our San Diego area, we also coordinated efforts with national animal protection groups and participated in many state-wide and national campaigns. Our last action was payment of a $10,000 reward to the person who provided information leading to arrest and conviction of a vicious animal abuser.

Our official activities concluded in 2018 but we will maintain our page as a means of sharing information.
