Public safety depends on police transparency. We know federal agents use loopholes to collaborate on immigration arrests in our communities. The public has a right to know how the city's resources are being used. A big thank you to Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera leading the way with the Due Process and Safety Ordinance, which passed 9-0 unanimously in the City Council yesterday!

This month, a new ordinance is being introduced to defend our communities—especially immigrant communities—against the ongoing threat of unauthorized immigration enforcement in our neighborhoods.

Speaking in support of the Due Process and Safety Ordinance that will be introduced by , SDIRC Chair Ian Seruelo said, "In a climate where hateful rhetoric and cruel policies threaten fairness and justice, protecting due process—especially for non-citizens—is both a legal necessity and a moral imperative. Due process upholds dignity and fairness for all, regardless of immigration status; and weakening it undermines democracy and the rule of law."
