JOB OPENING ANNOUNCEMENT: Accompanist, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Encinitas

REPORTS TO: The Rev. Brenda Sol, Rector (lead priest)
SALARY: $200 per Sunday
HOURS: Sundays, Rehearsal 8:45am-10am & Worship 10-11:15am
TO APPLY: Please submit letter of interest and resume to: [email protected]

WHO WE ARE:
St. Andrew’s is a vibrant and active community of over 200 households. Our 10am worship on Sundays is centered around a choral Family Eucharist with around 100 people. Our music program features a volunteer adult choir of 10-13 singers that welcomes people of all singing abilities. While our worship music typically includes a mixture of selections from Episcopal hymn collections, including The Hymnal 1982; Lift Every Voice and Sing II; Wonder, Love, and Praise; and Voices Found, we also incorporate newly composed hymns.

The ideal candidate will collaborate well with our choir director, be a skilled pianist, easily transpose hymns down at sight, and possess some modest improvisational ability (eg: providing a musical interlude when a worship element runs a bit longer than anticipated). Some familiarity with playing the organ is appreciated but not essential. It is also not important to have familiarity with the Episcopal Church: we seek instead a musician who can confidently accompany a choir. We will provide support to understand the role of music in the service and what is needed at which point of the liturgy.

MUSIC & LITURGICAL DUTIES:
-Collaborate with Choir Director to provide accompaniment (piano and, occasionally, organ, if possible) for Sunday worship and choir. Additionally, upon arrangement, provide accompaniment for seasonal liturgies, including, but not limited to:

Christmas Eve (4pm Nativity Pageant & 9pm Candlelight Service)
Christmas Day
Maundy Thursday
Good Friday
Saturday Easter Vigil
Easter Day, 8 & 10am

-Select, prepare, and play prelude and postlude before/after worship.

-Notify Rector of needs for instrument maintenance, repair, and tuning.

-Notify the parish of special music events and opportunities in the surrounding community

PARISH INSTRUMENTS:

-Yamaha C5 Grand Piano
-Rodgers Trillium Organ, Model 787
-Roland DP-10 88 key Digital Piano

American Guild of Organists, San Diego Chapter

The San Diego Chapter of the American Guild of Organists takes great pride in its history and seeks innovative ideas to be a leader in promoting the organ, organ and choral music, as well as providing mutual support for organists and choral directors and nurturing future organists. Chartered on March 6, 1922 after being established as a "sub-chapter" in 1917, it is part of an international professional association serving over 19,000 members throughout the United States, Europe, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan and Sydney, Australia. The chapter hosted regional conventions in 1969, 2001, and 2015 and Pipe Organ Encounters in 1997, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2017. We are proud of the large number of young organ students who are being trained to become future organists by several of our chapter members.
