Winter like conditions, couldn’t keep our fishin’ buddies from braving the elements and enjoying an early morning fishing adventure. Bundled up tight and rain-slickers at the ready; filled up on Mary’s galley Bacon-Burritos, French Toast, goodies and Hot Chocolate, we would be ready to get after some fishing fun! But first our adventure would start by answering this riddle:
A surprising and welcome event that is not explainable naturally or scientifically, but rather considered the work of God. (What am I?)
Baffled at first, perhaps not fully awake as even dawn is barely beginning to show itself, the fishin’ buddies would unravel the mystery and discover the answer is, a “Miracle”. And, the power of Just Believing in Jesus, the son of the God of Miracles.
Through God’s word in the story of, “The Faith of the Centurion”; we learned, after hearing of all the great miracles Jesus blessed God’s people with, a Roman officer found himself humbly at Jesus’s feet with a heavy heart for the sake of his beloved servant who was dying. He asked Jesus to save him. And because of the centurion’s stature in the roman community and feeling not worthy to have Jesus come to his home, he believed in Jesus power so much so, that he asked Jesus to just say the word and his servant would be healed. Amazed at his faith, Jesus said to the centurion, “ Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.
As we enjoy our fishing adventure together, we would thank God for the miracles in our lives, and remember to give our hearts to Jesus, no matter the circumstance so the God of Miracles may bless us.
Dolphins rode the wakes alongside us as we made our way, way south—the Coronado Islands grew bigger and bigger as we motored ahead through sea swells crashing over the bow, Gorton’s Fisherman style, which kept the fishin’ buddies excited for their adventure. And, not to mention a little wet too, making their journey all the better!
Captain Brandon set us up over rockpiles 90 feet below us, and it wasn’t long before fishing mates started in on catching a few Perch, a couple nice Sand Bass and Calicos. And, a few Whitefish, and Sculpin which were released as they are not in season yet.
Soon, a big squall brought wind, heavy rain and ocean white caps—although awesome, it made for some tough conditions. For a time there, the Coronado Islands were starting to remind us of Gilligan’s Island and the “Three Hour Tour” the S.S. Minnow it’s crew and passengers took—Google it... ha, ha!
We moved over several spots jostling for boat positioning throughout the morning. However, the fishin’ buddies battled, José even led us in a prayer to catch fish, through it all. Mia, Jacob and Angel managed to get in some Saturday morning cartoons together down in the galley during the mini-storm before returning to the rail with Dominic and the rest of us to catch the sight of a beautiful rainbow and reel in a few more perch. No doubt an adventure we’d not soon forget.
Some bait fish pranks and playfulness brought laughs, and rays of sunshine peering through clouds dried us out and warmed us up, keeping our fellowship joyous as we headed back to port. And speaking of joyous, Captain Brandon and the crew were just awesome in ensuring all the fishing mates had an enjoyable experience even in the tough conditions, so much so, the Fishin’ Buddies were eager to shake captain Brandon’s hand and thank him and his crew for all they did.
At the dock, as we came together to end this adventure, it was fitting the God of Miracles would call one of His angels to lead us in lifting our praise and thanks to Him, Our Father Who Art in Heaven, for our Fishin’ Family time together. Bless you Fishin’ Buddy, Angel, for answering His call.
Jesus!!!
