In the spring of 2011, the California Endowment brought together representatives from organizations that serve San Diego’s East African population in order to examine the issue of Healthcare Reform as it pertains to the organizations’ communities. The participating organizations are the Center for Bridging Communities, Horn of Africa, Huda Community Center, Nile Sisters, Somali Family Service, Som
ali Youth United, Southern Sudanese Community Center of San Diego, and South Sudan Christian Youth and Community Organization. Increasing the ability of the leaders to work collaboratively to educate the
community about healthcare reform and medical rights.
3. A strengthened peer network of identified leaders in order to establish more
coordinated efforts to address access to health care issues.
4. A shared vision and action plan for community outreach.
