Curious about HRC San Diego? Come vibe check us. 🌈

Ever wondered what HRC actually does here in San Diego? Maybe you’ve thought about volunteering, want to meet the people doing the work locally, or you’re just looking to build a little more LGBTQ+ community.

Come hang out with us!

📍 One of Us
📅 September 22
🕠 5:30 PM

This isn’t a meeting, presentation, or formal volunteer event. It’s just HRC San Diego board members, committee members, and volunteers getting together, having a drink, catching up, and building community outside of the work.

You’ll spot us in our HRC shirts. Come over, say hi, grab a drink, ask us questions, or just hang out and see if the vibe feels right.

No commitment. No pressure. Just community.

Because doing the work matters, but so does knowing the people you’re doing it with. 💙

September is Bisexual Visibility Month.

And visibility matters because bi+ people are not a footnote in the LGBTQ+ community. They are our friends, our partners, our family, our leaders, our volunteers, and a vital part of our movement.

Yet bisexual people still face erasure, stereotypes, and discrimination, sometimes even within LGBTQ+ spaces. Too often, their identities are questioned based on who they are dating, dismissed as a phase, or treated as something that needs to be explained or proven.

It doesn’t.

Being bi+ is valid whether someone is out or not. Whether they are partnered with a man, woman, nonbinary person, or no one at all. Their identity does not become more or less real depending on who is standing beside them.

This month is about more than visibility. It’s about belonging.

At HRC San Diego, we celebrate our bi+ community and recommit ourselves to making sure every part of our LGBTQ+ family has the space to be seen, supported, safe, and fully themselves.

Bi+. Visible. Valid. Always

We are heartbroken by the loss of Vincent Anthony Siqueiros and Cameron Davis Capara and our hearts are with their families, loved ones, and the entire Tucson LGBTQ+ community.

Once again, we are reminded that gun violence robs people of their lives, destroys families, and devastates communities. Learning the gunman was targeting LGBTQ+ friendly businesses is both chilling and enraging, and yet another dangerous example of the hate and bigotry that makes all Americans less safe. The Human Rights Campaign stands with LGBTQ+ people across Arizona in this moment, and always. We will never stop working to build a country where all of us can live openly and safely.

🏳️‍⚧️ August is Transgender History Month.

This month, HRC San Diego honors the transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people whose courage, resistance, joy, and leadership have helped shape LGBTQ+ history.

Trans people have always been here. They have organized, protested, created community, cared for one another, and stood on the front lines of movements for liberation, often while fighting simply to exist safely and authentically.

Transgender history is LGBTQ+ history.

And honoring that history means more than looking back. It means showing up now, especially at a time when transgender people, particularly trans youth and trans people of color, continue to have their rights and dignity targeted.

Here in San Diego and across the country, we remain committed to standing alongside our trans community, protecting their freedom, celebrating their lives, and making sure their voices are heard.

This month, we remember those who came before us, celebrate those making history today, and keep fighting for those who will come after us.

🏳️‍⚧️ Trans history is our history. Trans liberation is part of our collective liberation.

California, we’re ready. 💛💙

HRC San Diego is proud to support Xavier Becerra for Governor of California, a leader who has stood with our LGBTQ+ community and fought to protect equality and civil rights.

The stakes are too high to sit this one out. We need leadership in Sacramento that will defend our progress, protect our families, and keep California moving forward.

🏳️‍🌈 Equality is on the ballot. Let’s elect Xavier Becerra as California’s next Governor.

Community is at the heart of everything we do at HRC San Diego.

Today, our Board of Governors and committee members came together not just to do the work, but to intentionally spend time together, check in, build relationships, and support one another.

We were also proud to support Gossip Grill, a local LGBTQ+ business that continues to create space for and show up for our community. Supporting the businesses that support us is part of building a stronger community, too.

Because volunteering with HRC is about more than advancing LGBTQ+ rights. It’s about finding your people, showing up for each other, and building community while we do the work.

We’re making these informal hangouts a regular thing and will be sharing where we’ll be each month.

If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, volunteering, or just want to meet your local HRC San Diego leaders, come hang out with us.

Shoot us a DM. We’d love to meet you.

Today, HRC San Diego honors the life and legacy of Marsha P. Johnson on her birthday.

Marsha lived boldly, loved her community fiercely, and helped pave the way for generations of LGBTQ+ people who came after her, especially Black and Brown trans people.

Her fight for liberation is part of our history, and her legacy continues in the work we do today.

Happy Birthday, Marsha P. Johnson. Thank you for paving the way.
