Children exposed to this level of trauma are at a much higher risk for long-term health, social, and legal disparities as adults.

As the first evidence-based camping and mentoring program in the United States specifically for children exposed to domestic violence, Camp HOPE America uses a trauma-informed curriculum to restore a sense of childhood. By combining a transformative week of overnight outdoor camp with structured, year-round group mentorship, we help trauma-exposed youth build measurable resilience, discover their strengths, and find hope.

In high-risk intimate partner violence situations, nearly 80% of victims (79.7%) have experienced non-fatal strangulation (Messing et al., 2018).

Abuse often escalates invisibly. Because strangulation rarely leaves visible external marks, many survivors don't realize how dangerous it truly is to their long-term health and safety.

Symptoms to watch for after a strangulation incident:
• Sore throat, raspy voice, or difficulty swallowing
• Dizziness, confusion, or memory loss
• Tiny red spots (petechiae) around the eyes or face

Always seek urgent medical care after a strangulation incident.

We are wrapping up Class No. 8 today of our nationally recognized course — Hidden Homicides: Overcoming the Challenges of Staged Crime Scenes. We were so inspired by the professionals and survivors that participated including family members of lost loved ones from Voices for Victims of Hidden Homicides. We worked five actual cases in multi-disciplinary teams — Team Libby (Caswell), Team Heather (Mayer), Team Stacy (Feldman), Team Emily (Noble), and Team Mary Ann (Hayes). This course always feels like we are on sacred ground as we work on real cases and train dedicated professionals to identify suspicious death cases and then investigate them fully. So many women have died in the US and around the world and the killers have staged the scene to look like a su***de, accidental death, or drug overdose. We are passionately committed to ensuring that killers do not get away with murder. We have another platoon now in our struggle raise awareness across the country and around the world.
