We just wrapped up our 4th Expert Witness Course through our Training Institute on Strangulation Prevented hosted at the Tulsa Family Safety Center - one of the newest Family Justice Center/Child Advocacy Center campuses in the country!

Suzann Stewart, the visionary Director of the Tulsa Family Safety Center was an amazing host. Their new campus is stunningly beautiful! The passion of the attendees β€” prosecutors, defense attorneys, police officers, advocates, forensic nurses and doctors, social workers, judges, civil attorneys, and other professionals β€” always inspire me. This course was funded through a grant from the US Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. We are moving the dial across the country and around the world in the understanding of non-fatal, near-fatal, and fatal strangulation assaults. We have trained hundreds of thousands of professionals now through the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention, a program of Alliance for HOPE International, but we have millions more to go.

We have so much to be thankful for as we look back on 2025. πŸ’œ

It was a year of new leadership and new initiatives. Together, we’ve expanded our reach to help provide critical support like transportation and career up-skilling to survivors across the country.

None of this would be possible without our incredible community of DV professionals and partners. Thank you for helping survivors find safety, hope, and healing.

It is an honor to serve our country. While I have never served in the military, it is always an honor to assist those who do, especially those who protect the families who serve our country. This week I was honored to train at the Sea Services Special Trial Counsel Certification Course with Corporal Josh Helton in Coronado, California. We were given a 4-hour block to share what we have learned about investigating and prosecuting domestic violence and strangulation cases without victim participation. The Admiral, General, Colonel and 100 prosecutors were all there asking great questions, very much engaged and committed to keeping victims safe and holding offenders accountable. I was inspired by the leadership and grateful for the opportunity to serve my county in a different and (short) way. "Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other" - John F. Kennedy. I always learn something new each time I train.

This week marks National Crime Victims’ Rights Week ( )β€”a time to renew our commitment to a future where all survivors are believed, supported, and heard.

Led by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), this year’s theme is: Listen. Act. Advocate. Protect victims, serve communities. There is no better example of this mission in action than the Family Justice Center model.

By bringing advocates, law enforcement, medical professionals, and social services under one roof, Family Justice Centers ensure that survivors never have to navigate a maze of systems alone. Within these Centers, dedicated teams are ready to listen to their stories, act by providing immediate wrap-around services, and advocate for their rights every single day.

Join us this week as we honor survivors and the multi-disciplinary teams working to turn hope into a pathway for healing. πŸ’œπŸ’œ

Help us sustain this work. Your support allows us to continue championing the Family Justice Center model across the country and around the world. Please consider making a gift to our mission today:
