Shoreline Community Services

Shoreline Community Services Currently, “the most vulnerable” in our community are our Neighbors Experiencing Homelessness, so that is our current focus.

“Harnessing the power of community relationships to impact our most urgent social challenges” Current Focus - To address the unmet needs of our unhoused neighbors and families in the Central Beach Area of San Diego.” Shoreline Community Services is a registered 501(c)3 that serves as the central point of connection in our community – making sure the most vulnerable in the Central Beach Area are ca

red for with compassion and equity by members of our community. Shoreline is the only local non-profit that is focused exclusively on finding solutions to homelessness in our neighborhood! We seek to transform the Central Beach Area by engaging the community to respond to the needs of our most vulnerable members in the ways that they can serve best. Not just by offering relief services, but by offering the necessary resources people need to get off of the street. We want to create an interdependent community aligned with a common goal – a thriving, safe and welcoming neighborhood for everyone!

We’re thrilled to bring together an incredible culinary team for The Shoreline Table: Flavors of Italy on September 26.

Leading the evening is Ryan Johnston, Culinary Director and Chef de Cuisine of
Whisknladle Hospitality Group, whose portfolio includes Catania SD, Gravity Heights, Park Commons, and Farmer & Seahorse.

Joining Ryan is Joanna Rockwell, Nutrition Writer and Culinary Nutrition Specialist, bringing her expertise in food, nutrition, and thoughtful culinary experiences to the evening.

Together, they’ve created a four-course Italian dinner with wine pairings designed especially for The Shoreline Table.

It’s an evening built around everything we love about gathering around a table: exceptional food, good wine, meaningful conversation, and community.

One step can change everything.

When Frank first came to The Compass Station, he wasn't looking for a handout. He was looking for dignity, respect, and support. With each small step, Frank kept moving forward. Today, he has moved into housing.

This is the Power of One Step Forward.

This San Diego Gives, help us make the next step possible for more of our unhoused neighbors.

Our goal is $20,000, and an anonymous donor has pledged to match every dollar raised.

Your gift can go twice as far.

💙 Trust starts with showing up.

Our Volunteer Community Outreach Team meets people where they are. They listen, build relationships, and consistently show up for our unhoused neighbors. Over time, those relationships can become the foundation for trust and meaningful steps toward stability.

And sometimes, building that trust means meeting a very basic need.

Right now, new underwear is one of our most urgent needs. Hygiene and dignity supplies give our outreach team another way to offer practical support and let our neighbors know that they are seen, valued, and cared for.

Want to help?

🩲 Shop new underwear through our Amazon Wishlist, and your donation will ship directly to us: https://a.co/07UQEuJe

A small donation can be part of a much bigger journey. Thank you for helping our team meet people with compassion, dignity, and care.

Every journey out of homelessness is made up of steps.

Some are big. Many are small. And sometimes, simply having someone there to help make the next step possible can make all the difference.

This year, Shoreline is exploring "The Power of One Step Forward" for San Diego Gives — sharing stories of progress, perseverance, and hope from the people who make our work possible.

Our Board members understand that we may not know which step will become the turning point. But we can make sure Shoreline is there when that moment comes.

💙 Wishlist Spotlight: Hair Care Supplies

This week, we're asking our community to help us provide something simple but important: hair brushes and hair ties.

For someone experiencing homelessness, having access to basic personal care items can help them feel clean, confident, comfortable, and cared for. These small essentials can also make a difference when preparing for work, appointments, or other important steps toward stability.

At The Compass Station, our Guests have access to hygiene supplies every day. And once a month, a volunteer hairstylist joins us on Wellness Thursdays to provide haircuts for our Guests.

You can help us keep these supplies stocked! 🛒

Shop our Amazon Wishlist and your donation will be shipped directly to Shoreline Community Services: https://a.co/07UQEuJe

Thank you for helping us care for our neighbors with dignity, one essential at a time.

Homelessness isn’t a personal failure, it’s the result of systems built with barriers only those who experience it face. After years working closely with San Diego’s unhoused community, Shoreline intern Natalia Garza shares how zoning laws, ordinances, and policy shape people’s lives far more than stereotypes ever will.

Changing the narrative starts with understanding the truth and addressing the system.

For Cathy, moving forward started with small things- a meal, a load of laundry, a shower, and connections to people who could help.

This year, we’re highlighting The Power of One Step Forward and the small steps that can begin a much bigger journey.
