YachtAid Global "Changing the World Without Changing Course"

YachtAid Global, is a registered 501c3 founded in 2006, operating at the highest levels of international non-profit work, provides humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and conservation programs across coastal communities worldwide, through our global network of donors, organizations, and superyachts. Our initiatives engage the yachting community’s generosity and unique assets already in place, to s

ave lives, alleviate suffering, build stronger communities, improve the planet, and create lasting philanthropic footprints across coastal regions worldwide. YAG was founded in 2006 by Captain Mark Drewelow as a charitable extension of his day-to-day business at C2C, Inc, a San Diego-based yacht services agency that provides port facilities and concierge services for vessels, crews and owners. In 2018, YachtAid Global opened the first public Library in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island, which included building renovations, standardized operations, a small computer lab, and a collection of 1500 books. Since then, the libray has been serving as a hub in the community for:

- Education and Literacy
- Scientific Lectures
- Literature Events
- Arts & Environmental Workshops
- Emergency Preparedness and Support

Over the years, Biblioteca Comunitaria para Galápagos y el Mundo had become evident that an expansion was paramount to continue the success and effectiveness of this popular community library.

In the fall of 2025, thanks to our donors, YachtAid Global was able to not only remodel and expand the library footprint by 50%, a new monitoring system and a handicapped lift.

As part of Operation Quartz, the YachtAid Global team recently spent time in Puerto Vallarta alongside donors and participating yacht crew in support of a local orphanage, technical school for children and an underfunded ambulance station.

In addition to delivering new computers and mattresses to the orphanage, fundamental improvements were made to exterior of the facility, a complete new water supply and delivery system was installed, and numerous upgrades were made to the orphanage’s kitchen.

The children’s technical school, that has been teaching trades, electrical and hospitality in theory only, was supported through the donation of computers, a Starlink for internet, tools, and kitchen appliances. Participating yacht crew also helped build wood training panels for the better teaching electrician basics.

Finally, first aid supplies and equipment were delivered to the local ambulance station that included outfitting several ambulances with transport chairs and monitors that display critical patient vitals.

As part of Operation C-Phoenix supporting the education initiatives on the island of Antigua, the YachtAid global team with the support of participating donors delivered supplies to various schools during the antiguacharteryachtshow These supplies included food for the schools meal programs for underprivileged children in the area, school and teaching supplies, and a variety of power tools for each schools trade programs.

In addition to the supplies, local students interested in sailing got a chance to tour multiple yachts attending the charter show to learn more about the vessels themselves, as well as speak to multiple crew members discussing what life as a yacht crew is really like. After these trips, a meeting with a local sailing school was organized providing the children with the opportunity to take the next steps towards a possible career at sea.

This year in Antigua, YachtAid Global was also featured prominently with the Adrift Film Festival relaunch, a superyacht crew film festival benefiting YAG. The festival partnered with National Marine Suppliers, YachtieWorld, Yachtingbc, and Roccabella Yachts , showcasing some very talented yacht crew submissions and raising money to be used specifically on the island. Some of the funds were already allocated purchasing food supplies, children’s clothing and toys that were distributed to underprivileged families during the Christmas season.

As always, the week finished up with a beach cleanup supported by participating yacht crew and Adoptacoastline.

Intensifying to a Category 5 hurricane, as Hurricane Melissa approaches the island of Jamaica the team at YachtAid Global is monitoring the situation closely. Due to the slow moving trajectory of the storm, Hurricane Melissa threatens with its arrival, record breaking winds, storm surge and rainfall that elevate the risk of flash flooding and landslides.

In addition to Jamaica, observing model trajectories for Hurricane Melissa also indicate that it could impact the Bahamas where YachtAid Global assisted after Hurricane Dorian struck the island nation in 2019.

We will continue to gather information and liaise with local officials throughout the coming days while we hope for the best for all coastal communities that could be impacted this week.

Historically, only a few dozen Atlantic storms have reached Category 5 intensity since reliable records began in the 1920s. Although it initially weakened after being classified as a tropical storm, Hurricane Erin underwent explosive rapid intensification from a Category 1 to a Category 5 - one of the fastest such intensifications on record, particularly before Sept 1st.

This quick escalation, alongside the trend of large-scale storms so early in the season similar to Hurricane Beryl last year in Grenada, is just more evidence that we are seeing a shift in global weather patterns. From YachtAid Global’s initial work in 2006, disaster relief has always been a focus and we will continue to engage the yachting community’s generosity and unique assets already in place to save lives, alleviate suffering, improve the planet, and build stronger coastal communities.

YachtAid Global, participating yacht crews and marine scientists conducted field research on manta rays and epaulette sharks in the Raja Ampat Archipelago. These sharks, also known as “walking sharks” for their unique ability to walk across the shoreline and seafloor using their pectoral and pelvic fins, are endemic to the Raja Ampat area and only grow up to 30” long.

Epaulette sharks, currently listed as nearly threatened on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List, are characterized by their unique spot patterns and are 1 of 9 species of morphologically similar sharks that are native to the waters around Northern Australia, New Guinea, and the Raja Ampat Archipelago.

With little knowledge about these species, the team tagged and tracked the sharks to help establish a population baseline and better understand the “walking sharks” movement patterns. These studies will provide data that enable local scientists to implement effective conservation strategies, helping to ensure the long-term survival and success of the species.

As a key part of Operation Beagle and our work across the Galapagos Islands, we are excited to announce the start of the expansion of the first Galapagos Public Library in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz - creating a larger, more dynamic and functional space for the community.

Biblioteca Galápagos was opened in 2018 through a collaborative effort between visiting yachts and our local partners and municipality authorities. Our shared vision has been greater educational access for all the members of local communities.

Over the years, Biblioteca Galápagos has evolved into a lively community center, hosting regular activities that include reading hours for children, homework assistance programs and workshops on environmental stewardship.

Regarded not only as a library but also as a hub for civic engagement, Biblioteca Galápagos frequently hosts community meetings and cultural celebrations bringing in International volunteers and researchers who regularly contribute to the library’s programs, enriching its offerings and strengthening ties between the Galápagos and the global community.

By combining traditional library services with environmental education, cultural preservation, and digital access, Biblioteca Galápagos stands as an inspiring example of how a library can become the heart of a community. YachtAid Global is proud to be able to play an integral part in helping the library continue to adapt to meet the evolving needs of island residents and visitors while nurturing a shared commitment to knowledge and conservation.

With continued focus on our education programs, YachtAid Global team and visiting yacht crews recently converted social distancing sheds built during COVID pandemic into fully functional classrooms to accommodate the growing population of the local school in Antigua. Originally built as a primary school, the school’s enrolment has been steadily increasing since it converted to a secondary school, making this expansion a priority. In addition to the construction, the YachtAid Global team also installed AC units and fans in another school nearby while also repairing the hallways and closing off each classroom so that the newly installed units run more efficiently. The heat and humidity have increased substantially over the recent years in Antigua, disrupting classes, damaging books and electrical equipment. These improvements are just another step in how the yachting community is working to do our part to ensure “inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong opportunities for all.” - United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #4
