Behind every great event is an even greater team. 🌺

As we gear up for An Aloha Affair: Outbid. Outplay. Outgive. on September 19th, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible volunteers, board members, and dental professionals who pour their hearts into making this night - and our mission - possible all year long.

Our annual fundraiser isn't just a party. It's the culmination of hundreds of hours of planning, passion, and purpose by people who genuinely believe that no one in San Diego should suffer from an untreated toothache because they can't afford care.

From our dedicated board members who champion this mission in boardrooms and beyond, to the volunteers who show up with gloves, instruments, and open hearts at our clinics - this community is something special. And on September 19th, they'll all be in one room, celebrating what we've built together and raising the bar for what's still to come.

What if the next great dentist serving San Diego's most vulnerable communities is sitting in a classroom right now — just waiting for someone to believe in them? 🎓

That's exactly the kind of future the SDCDF Scholarship Program is built to create.

Dental school is expensive. The passion to serve underserved communities? That can't be bought. But the financial pressure of tuition and living costs can sometimes push the most mission-driven students to the sidelines. We don't think that's okay — and since 1978, we've been doing something about it.

Our scholarship supports dental students who aren't just academically strong (though they are — a 3.0 GPA minimum is required), but who are deeply committed to community service and to improving lives through their work. Recipients also gain hands-on training at our John Geis, DDS Dental Clinic, where they provide real care to real patients — homeless veterans who deserve the very best.

As scholarship recipient Matthew Nguyen shared: "With tuition prices and living costs rising, every bit of financial aid helps. The scholarship I received from SDCDF greatly helped to relieve some financial burden... it continues to motivate me to study hard and make the most out of the opportunities presented to me."

That motivation matters. Because today's scholarship recipients are tomorrow's dentists — the ones who will staff free clinics, volunteer on weekends, join boards, and carry this mission forward for the next generation.

Summer is officially here, and so is the countdown to one of San Diego's most meaningful evenings of the year. We're talking about An Aloha Affair: Outbid. Outplay. Outgive. - the San Diego County Dental Foundation's annual fundraiser, where good people come together to do something truly great.

This isn't your average gala. It's an evening where every bid placed, every paddle raised, and every ticket purchased turns into real, life-changing dental care for veterans experiencing homelessness right here in our community. Ever wonder how free dental care actually gets delivered? Here's a peek behind the curtain.

The San Diego County Dental Foundation works by bringing three things together:

✔️Donors who believe everyone deserves a healthy smile
✔️Dental professionals who volunteer their time and skills
✔️Students who are learning that dentistry is about more than just teeth

Together, we fund and operate two free clinics - the John Geis Dental Clinic for veterans in recovery, and St. Leo's Clinic for underserved San Diegans in urgent need. We also award scholarships to the next generation of purpose-driven dental professionals.

No government funding. No insurance billing. Just a community that refuses to let its neighbors go without care. 💙

Not quite! The San Diego County Dental Foundation is a nonprofit foundation - meaning we fund and operate free dental clinics, support dental students through scholarships, and mobilize a community of volunteers and donors around one shared belief: that dental care is a right, not a privilege.

Since 1978, we've been the behind-the-scenes engine powering free care for San Diego's most vulnerable neighbors - veterans experiencing homelessness, underserved community members, and anyone who's fallen through the cracks of our healthcare system.
