Over $72,000,000,000 is spent on diamonds for jewelry every year. We think that money could be better spent. The diamond trade is a very dirty business that is responsible for slavery, poverty, and war in Congo, Sierra Leon, Angola, and Ivory Coast. Beyond that, Diamonds aren't even unique. Organizations like De Beers simply restrict the supply thus artificially inflating the price.

Intel has announced it will no longer use "conflict minerals" in its microprocessors. Photographer Marcus Bleasdale, who's documented the suffering in the Congo's mines, is thrilled.

It's great to see adaptations from Give Well here. We've been touting for some time that the other organizations that Give Well supports (has supported) are extremely strong even if they aren't currently ranked #1. It's important to support great organizations that are showing hyper-effective results so that they can continue growing and improving their processes.

Since naming the Against Malaria Foundation (AMF) as our #1 charity in late 2011, we have tracked $10.6 million in donations made to it as a result of our recommendation. In that time, AMF has held the funds while attempting to negotiate a net distribution to spend them on. It has not yet finalized ...

During a recent weekend, I re-watched the movie Blood Diamonds (2007), an advocacy-entertainment movie trying to raise awareness about the problem of natural resources being used to finance horrific African wars. As illustrated in Blood, conflict diamonds were used to finance a civil war in Sierra L...

Once one of Africa’s most vicious tyrants, is the first ex-head of state convicted by an international war crimes court since the Second World War

How's this for a political chant: “He killed my ma, he killed my pa, I’ll vote for him.”

Yes, Blood Diamonds Are Still A Thing. And like we've been preaching, The Kimberly Process may not go far enough to protect human rights. Read on

Remember the film Blood Diamonds? Conflict-free diamonds aren't as heavily covered in the media, but for exploited workers and victims of diamond-related violence, this is still a serious issue.
