Meet our newest architect, Luis!
“Hello, my name is Luis Arturo Covarrubias González. I am 54 years old and a proud citizen of Tijuana, born and raised here. I love my city, my country, and I love being Mexican. I have a wife and two children who are, without a doubt, my current purpose in life. When it comes to sharing about myself, I like to mention that I really enjoy handcrafts, trades, carpentry, blacksmithing, and construction. I am passionate about vehicles, motion, bicycles, cars, and visual journeys.
While I consider myself an expert in nothing, I absolutely love food, deep conversations, songs, art, and good celebrations. My parents arrived in Tijuana from the south at a very young age, where they met and started our family. During my childhood, part of my family immigrated to San Diego while others stayed behind, so life on both sides of the border deeply shaped who I am. I was fortunate enough to discover architecture, which has been my guide to understanding people, communities, and humanity. Something about myself and my profession tells me that creating or inspiring spaces (whether dynamic or static) where people can enjoy and climb the ladder of life is one of the best things that can happen to us.
I believe that each new dawn adds another piece to our puzzle; leaving home feeling alive and enriched, and later returning to our “warm and stable home,” leads to an accumulation of happiness. That is what I believe about space, architecture, and the home. I have had the opportunity to work with many people, first as a student at the Instituto Tecnológico de Tijuana, then as a Tijuana government employee, and later as a professional in the private sector. What I appreciate the most is the day-to-day learning and sharing experiences.
At Fundación Esperanza de México, I feel fortunate to live this experience where community work and the search for better living conditions come together in a project that is completely relevant and exemplary. I am convinced that with hard work and dedication, good things are here today and will continue to grow for tomorrow.”
