Stepping Stone Alumni Association

Stepping Stone Alumni Association The Stepping Stone Alumni Association's sole purpose is to provide an ongoing outlet for alumni servi This includes inpatient, outpatient and support services.

The Stepping Stone Alumni Association is a group of former program participants that provide assistance to Stepping Stone of San Diego (SSSD) and the clients that receive SSSD services. The Alumni Association works closely with SSSD but is not directly affiliated with the agency. This Facebook group is open to past, present and future alumni of Stepping Stone of San Diego. It is also open to all o

f our friends in the recovery community. If you are in recovery and you want to be of service or just get involved in helping newcomers in the program, we welcome you. The Stepping Stone Alumni Association has an open business meeting on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7pm. All alumni and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. The Alumni Association remaining business meeting dates for the 2016 calendar year are as follows: 5/19, 06/16, 07/21, 08/18, 09/15, 10/20, 11/17, 12/15. The business meeting is held in the upstairs conference room and usually lasts about an hour. No RSVP is necessary. You can just show up and if you like, bring a friend. We start at 7:00 sharp, so come ready with fresh ideas and an open mind. The monthly business meeting is a forum to discuss future alumni sponsored recovery-related events and a way for Stepping Stone alumni to come together to exchange ideas and stay connected to the San Diego recovery community. The Alumni Association sponsors and/or participates in various events throughout the year to benefit the Stepping Stone recovery community. Some of these events include (but are not limited to): The Christmas Breakfast at Residential, San Diego Gay Pride, AIDS Walk, The Annual Stepping Stone Graduation, Recovery Games, Alumni Sponsor/Sponsee Breakfast, Padres Games, Movie Nights at The Stone and many more. For some of us, staying close to the rehab and participating actively in the alumni group, volunteering for various positions w/ development or for clerical duties on-site, as well as being active in our 12-step fellowships are a crucial part of what helps keep us clean and sober. Additionally it shows the new residents in the house who may be feeling scared, angry, hurt or depressed, that they are not alone and that there is hope. As alumni we lead by example. We come back to show the newcomers in the program that the treatment center in conjunction with working a solid 12-step program can really work for them in their lives if they can be open-minded, willing and totally honest. We primarily align ourselves with the LGBT community, however we are NOT exclusively restricted to LGBT persons and people of ANY sexual orientation are welcome in our group. We value the diversity of our community and we do advocate for equality of all people. Donations to the Alumni Association are used to help us offset our annual costs which are incurred to pay for these previously mentioned events. So please consider making a small donation to the alumni group. Please email us or show up at a monthly business meeting for more info about how you can help. [email protected]

It's all about one addict/alcoholic helping another. We can only keep what we have by giving it away. We recognize that others helped us through the tough times in early recovery and so now it is our turn to pay it forward. If you are looking for rehabilitation services currently offered by our parent organization: Stepping Stone of San Diego Inc., please visit: www.steppingstonesd.org or call: 619-584-4010 during normal business hours for more information.

I just heard this news from Alice Henry

I’m sad to tell you that Damien Salvaggio from NYC, a former Stepping Stone resident from 2005-2006 has passed away.

He is survived by his long time companion and soul mate Maureen, and two sisters in Rochester NY. His parents predeceased him.

He recently earned his MA in Social Work and was ready to take the exam. Damien moved to New York to care for his long time friend and mentor, Ray Price, who was President Nixon’s speech writer. Ray died on Feb. 13 of cardiac arrest.

Damien was a restless soul, bright man and dedicated to travel — seeing the world. He jumped from one interest to another - landing in Social Work where he found his niche and passion.

There will be a family service in Rochester and a Celebration of Life in Florida. He will be missed by many.
