🚨 11 Nursing Orgs Sue U.S. Dept of Education 🚨

A massive coalition led by the American Nurses Association () has filed a federal lawsuit to block a new rule set for July 1, 2026 that slashes federal loan limits for graduate nursing students from $200,000 to $100,000.

By excluding advanced nursing from "professional degree" status, this rule creates massive financial barriers for NPs, CRNAs, CNMs, CNSs, and nurse educators at a time when healthcare workforce shortages are already dangerously high.

⚖️ The 11 Organizations Fighting Back:
American Nurses Association (ANA)

American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA)

Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN)

American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM)

American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA)

Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON)

Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated

Health Ministries Association (HMA)

National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS)

National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health (NPWH)

American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA)

(Joined by a separate coalition of 24 state attorneys general)

💡 What You Need to Know
Despite over 80,000 public comments against it, the rule was finalized anyway. If you are entering or enrolled in an advanced nursing program for Fall 2026, monitor this lawsuit closely and prepare financial backup plans.

Nursing education is a professional degree, and it's time it gets treated with the same respect as medicine, law, and dentistry.
