UCSD Pediatric Diabetes Research Center

The PDRC is San Diego's hub for type 1 diabetes research. Additionally, investigators examine the impact of type 2 diabetes medications on adolescent patients.

Research - With a focus on type 1 diabetes, researchers at the PDRC are investigating what happens to insulin-producing beta cells in the course of auto-immune destruction, how to generate new beta-cells from stem cell and other tissues, why insulin becomes less effective and what interventions may improve it, and many more issues. Clinical investigators conduct trials to learn what drugs may prol

ong the "honeymoon" period of type 1 diabetes, and gathering bioinformatic data of close relatives of persons with type 1 diabetes.
