Donors and volunteers come together to ensure that San Diego's Ronald McDonald House is here for families with children in medical crisis. Each year, we provide lodging to 1,400 families, and thousands more use our Family Care Center during the day for meals, naps, computer access, laundry, showers, and play spaces--all free of charge to family members with hospital identification. We also operate

the "School Away from School," an onsite school for the siblings of hospitalized children, in partnership with San Diego Unified School District.

We are excited to announce the launch of Family Support Services here at San Diego's Ronald McDonald House and welcome Lisa Castagnola, LCSW, as our Director of Family Support Services.⁠

This new program provides social-emotional care, crisis intervention, and practical tools for parents and children throughout their medical journey.⁠
⁠
Lisa brings more than 25 years of experience in child development, family systems, and clinical care with children and caregivers. Her background includes school-based social work in New York City, community mental health, and training therapists and educators in social-emotional practice.⁠

Recently, something special happened inside our House.

Students in our School Away From School—a partnership with San Diego Unified School District—celebrated the final day of the school year. For siblings and young patients staying with us during treatment, it was a moment of normalcy, joy, and accomplishment.

While school may be out for the summer, the laughter and learning continue. In the months ahead, our House will be filled with camp programs, creative activities, and opportunities for kids to simply be kids—even during some of life’s most difficult moments.

And for those of us cheering them on, summer is also a chance to come together in support.

We recently welcomed local author Karin Eastham to our bi-monthly Book Corner reading series! 📖✨⁠

From the mountains of Park City to the beaches of San Diego, Sawyer Brown enchants children by telling them all about how he loves to run and chase, get lots of love and pets, and, of course, his favorite treats!⁠
