If the power is shut off and you are suddenly working out where to charge a phone, SDG&E opens Community Resource Centers during a Public Safety Power Shutoff.

They offer device charging, water, snacks, and current outage information. For anyone running a power wheelchair, a CPAP, or anything else that needs an outlet, knowing where the nearest one is before you need it is worth five minutes today.

If you want to go further than knowing where to charge, we are running two workshops this month to build a personal emergency plan covering communication, evacuation, medications, and mobility equipment. Details coming this week.

If the power goes out during a Public Safety Power Shutoff, you want to have heard about it before it happens, not after.

SDG&E notifies customers ahead of a shutoff, but only if your contact information is current. Updating it takes a few minutes at MyEnergyCenter.com, and the free Alerts by SDG&E app sends outage and emergency notifications straight to your phone.

If you run medical equipment at home, this is worth doing today rather than in the middle of a red flag warning. While you are in there, check that you are enrolled in Medical Baseline, which also flags your household for extra notice.

If the recent storm damaged or destroyed your medical equipment, emergency supplies, or important documents, Access to Independence can help.

Our Honolulu office can help with:
• Replacing medical equipment, like wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs, and CPAP machines
• Emergency kits and battery generators
• Replacing documents lost to flooding

We can also help you find cleanup help.

If you have looked at an SDG&E bill lately and felt your stomach drop, there is help and most people do not know it exists.

CARE takes 30 percent or more off your monthly bill. Applying takes a few minutes and requires no documentation. FERA takes 18 percent off for households just over the CARE income limits, and households of one or two people now qualify, which is new.

If you use medical equipment at home, Medical Baseline gives you additional energy at the lowest available rate. If you are already behind, payment arrangements can keep your service on while you catch up.

Today the Imperial County Board of Supervisors passed a proclamation celebrating the amazing service dogs who help people with disabilities live more independent, active lives. And we’re so proud that Access to Independence was recognized in it for our ardvocacy and community eduction! 💙👏

A huge THANK YOU to Chairwoman Peggy Price and the whole Board of Supervisors for standing with our disability community!
