Australia Day is just around the corner and we are hosting an event to bring together the community on Saturday January 24th at 11am at NTC Park Liberty Station. Please join us for a potluck style picnic and a scratchy match for all ages and levels. There will be aussie snacks, and merch for sale. As we always say, the more the merrier so bring your friends and family too. Hope to see you there!

Lions family, help us welcome another pillar of our club’s history to the 2025 coaching staff — Assistant Coach Justin!

Justin’s footy journey is packed with accomplishments across the USAFL and nearly two decades in the Lions jumper:
🇺🇸 First USAFL match in 2002 with the Western Pennsylvania Wallabies
🎓 Winner of the 2004 USAFL Macquarie University Scholarship
🦁 Played for the San Diego Lions from 2006–2025
🏆 Three-time Nationals Champion — Div 1, Div 2 & Div 4 Grand Final winner with the Lions
⭐ Named to the Lions Team of the Decade
🫡 Captain of the Lions Quarter Century Team
🏅 Lions Life Member
🇺🇸 Represented the US Revolution (2006–2011)
🎯 Assistant Coach for the US Revolution (2024–2025)

🦁 Meet Our Assistant Coach — JEFFO! 🦁
Lions family, we’re excited to introduce (or re-introduce!) a true club legend stepping into the Assistant Coach role for 2025 — Jeffo!
Jeffo’s footy résumé is as deep as his love for the red, white & blue:
🏉 17-year Lions player (’03–’18)
🦁 170+ games — mostly dominating in the Ruck and on the Half-Forward Flank
🏅 Lifetime Member of the San Diego Lions
🔥 Played in two Division I Grand Finals, winning the ’06 National Championship
✈️ Has attended every USAFL Nationals since 2003 — except ’21 & ’22
🕊️ Umpired 100+ USAFL games since 2013
Off the field, Jeffo brings the same dedication and energy:
👨‍🏫 A longtime Phys. Ed. coach
❤️ Married 23 years to his wife Jackie
👧 Dad to two awesome girls — Laurel (14) and Coco (10)

🦁 Big News, Lions Family! 🦁
We’re pumped to announce the return of a familiar face to lead the pride — our new Head Coach, Mick Raher!
Mick brings a wealth of experience and deep roots in Aussie Rules, both on and off the field:
🇦🇺 Played junior and senior footy at St. Joseph’s in the Geelong Football League
🥇 U18 Goalkicking Champion
🏉 Senior player at CBC St. Kilda in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA)
🏅 Runner-up Best & Fairest at CBC St. Kilda
💪 Played for Birregurra in the Colac & District Football League
🌴 Served as VP of the San Diego Lions in 2001
🦁 Head Coach of the Lions in 2003 — and now he’s back to lead the charge once again!
With his passion for the game, leadership, and long-time love for the club, we’re fired up for what’s ahead this season under Mick’s guidance.

Please join us for the SD Lions Annual General Meeting and Awards on Saturday October 25th, 12 noon - 3pm at Fast Times in Clairemont.

We’ll be celebrating a successful 2025, voting in new board members for 2026, and honoring standout players from the 2025 season. You won’t want to miss this one. Rumor has it there will even be a special musical guest.

Huge shoutout to the Girls for winning Division 2 Championship this weekend at the 2025 USAFL Nationals! Incredibly proud of our Lion girls reppin with the AZ Hawks to bring home the cup! Fantastic efforts shown on and off the field. Counting down the days until 2026 Nationals, repeat repeat.
