***Our Family's Story***
Our lives were shaken up when we were expecting our second daughter in 2011. At a mere 5 weeks gestation, Faye had all the symptoms of an impending miscarriage. We prayed to the Lord for acceptance and chose to keep our sorrow private. We never dreamed that God would send us this child to test our faith. We are a family of believers, and yet we were going through the moti
ons of life. We didn't even realize that we were just going through the motions. We thought, "I'm saved, I'm a believer of the Lord Jesus Christ, I have my family, God is good." But He sent us this child who would shake up every fiber of our faith and soul. With her, we truly experience the magnitude of God's power and mercy and felt such a renewed sense of awe for every tiny miracle that He creates. We can barely express in words how He used Miley to change our Christian lives. Miracles are everywhere and prayer is powerful. Faye was jaded from working in the medical field and felt there was just no way a baby would survive in her womb with all the blood that came. We conceded loss, prayed for acceptance. "I'll still pray boldly to The Lord for a miracle," our best friend said to Faye, and with that, we asked for prayers and received Prayer Warriors. Miraculously, the baby continued to grow and the bleeding stopped.
***How we started our Helping Hands Project***
So that we never forget how much God has blessed us, we decided to make a conscious effort to teach our two girls about God's love and how to spread that love into the community in tangible ways. What better way than at Miley's first birthday party :) We had children make blessing bags of toiletries and food for the homeless. It was an instant success and parents loved teaching their own children about what the blessing bags could mean for homeless people. The sharing and love was contagious and we couldn't stop there! We decided as a family to continue choosing a community service project for each birthday party we had. We nicknamed it "Parties with a purpose." Since then, we have been able to collect toys for Rady Children's Hospital, canned goods for Skyline Church's food pantry, school supplies for San Diego Youth Services, and even shoes for children in third world countries! It has been encouraging to see other children excited to help. Most importantly, as we have the children gather to pray for these items at our parties, we are trying to impart on them about God's love for us and how we can share this love with others. Through it all we give all the glory to God. May He and He alone be glorified in all the He does through us. "Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness"
-Psalms 115:1
