On Sunday we distributed the 1800+ hygiene and cleaning products our members collected for residents in Alpha Project's Harrington Heights supportive housing.

One of their case workers reached out to us about their residents' need for hygiene and cleaning items so our members teamed up to organize a donation drive and distribution. We collected full-size body wash, dish soap, brooms, and more to help improve the quality of life for their residents who have experienced homelessness. Residents were able to select the items they needed and excess items were stored with the Alpha Project staff for future resident needs. After our distribution we toured the building and learned more about the supportive programs provided there.

On Thursday a group of our members volunteered at Grant Park with the San Diego River Park Foundation to prepare the space for their annual fundraiser, Fiesta Del Rio. The fundraiser directly supports SDRPF's volunteer programs, advancing conservation, restoration, education, research, and community engagement efforts throughout the watershed.

Our volunteers removed brush, trimmed plants, cleared debris from the sidewalks, and more to make the space as beautiful as possible for the fundraiser.

Last Sunday we were back at People Assisting the Homeless - PATH Connections Housing serving a continental-style breakfast for their residents.

The speaker at our meeting this month was Joey Landwehr, Education & Outreach Associate at Broadway San Diego. He shared about the array of Tony-award-winning offerings in their upcoming season as well as their outreach programs which provide affordable tickets to high schools, opportunities for free youth tickets with paid adult admission, education on the performance and technical aspects of theater, and a competition for high schoolers to be in a Broadway production.

We pinned our newest member, Karen Stearns, a retired elementary teacher who still loves to be a substitute teacher. Welcome Karen!

We also collected over 1300 hygiene items for our upcoming service project with Alpha Project where we'll provide hygiene and cleaning products for the residents at their Harrington House supportive housing site.

Last Monday a few of our members attended our member, Dr. Alain Lescart's Author Talk on his book "The Bloodstones of Power" at the Point Loma Library. The book is part of a fantasy series called "The Norwesis Chronicles."

Last Sunday we enjoyed the 80s cover band, BETAMAXX, at their free concert in Civita Park. Richard and Dana hosted a table to talk to attendees and share about our Rotary club.

Join us at our monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 15 at 6pm at the Mission Valley Library!

The speaker for this meeting will be Joey Landwehr, Education & Outreach Associate for Broadway San Diego. Broadway San Diego (a Nederlander presentation) is San Diego's largest theatrical presenting organization and has been a part of the San Diego arts and culture scene for almost 50 years. He will share an exclusive preview of the season and the chance to learn more about the performing arts in San Diego.

We'll also be collecting hygiene product donations for Alpha Project! Donation list and Amazon registry are included on the meeting link.

Prospective members are welcome! Email us at least 24 hours prior to the meeting at [email protected] to let us know you’re coming. If you aren’t a member, your first meeting is free. We ask $10 to cover the cost of dinner from members and visiting Rotarians.

The speaker at our meeting this month, District 5340 Governor Jeb E Bakke, shared his Rotary-inspired transformation and helped us pin our newest member, Enola Kipte.

President Chris selected Jessie Case for Jeb’s Governor Recognition Award which recognizes an outstanding member who has been pivotal in the club's success.

After the meeting, a large group of us went to Islands for drinks and more time together.

Join us at our monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 18 at 6pm at the Mission Valley Library!

The speaker for this meeting will be our new District 5340 Governor Jeb E Bakke. Jeb became a Rotarian in 1991 and has been a member of Poway Rotary and Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary, serving in a variety of capacities in both clubs. He served as President of RB Sunrise in 2020-21. He has served the district as International Service Chair from 2021-23 and was an assistant governor for Area 15 that serves both the Paradise Valley and Sweetwater Rotary clubs as well as four active Rotaract clubs - D5340 of SDSU, UCSD, Pacific Beach and City Heights.

Tonight members of our club enjoyed a social get together at Lazy Dog. President Chris even brought his dog! We had a great time catching up, learning more about each other, laughing and of course talking about Rotary.
