We are so grateful for the support of the many talented crafters in our community who help bring comfort and care to San Diego newborns in need.

Our second quarter Volunteer Spotlight is on The Bookies! These incredible women volunteer as a group (who are a book club outside of GH) sorting through donations on a monthly basis. They have been coming to our North Coastal office for well over a year and are one of our most reliable groups!

The Bookies generally bring in donations when they come and once they saw our Director of Operations, Janet, shopping for items that we needed and they bought them all for us on the spot. They are a fun group of women and they get the job done - then they often go out to dinner afterwards.

We were thrilled to be able to deliver several of our Gently Hugged care bundles to the UCSD Hillcrest Health Center in July!

Each Gently Hugged care bundle includes essential baby clothes, blankets, books, and other items that support a baby’s first year. Every bundle is thoughtfully prepared so families receive clean, practical essentials they can use right away. Our distribution process is thoughtful, respectful, and designed to connect families with the resources they need through trusted community partners - like UC San Diego Health.

Wow! Gently Hugged volunteers Jennie and Vicki picked up 24 huge bags of donations last month. We are beyond grateful to Rhea Lana's of Northeast San Diego for this incredible donation of 0-12 month baby clothing.

The generosity of their consignors, who can opt to have any unsold items donated, will help so many local babies and families - we truly cannot thank Rhea Lana's of Northeast San Diego enough for this amazing gift at the end of their most recent sale.

Our North Coastal office is sending Jody Hirschfeld a huge THANK YOU for coordinating the Gently Hugged Crafter Social & Workshop in June. This event brought together new and loyal members of our crafter community for a time of fellowship and creation!

Jody also drives for us, picking up donations and delivering bundles, and does laundry of our donated items regularly. That's all in addition to her crafting contributions. We are grateful for this multi-talented volunteer!

🎉 We're excited to announce a new collection bin site! 🎉

Kids & Coffee in Carlsbad hosted an event this week in partnership with Aquaphor and Scary Mommy. As a result, they were able to provide us with some adorable donations to support San Diego newborns in need. On top of that generous gift, Kids & Coffee has agreed to host a collection bin in their lobby!

As a reminder, we accept the following gently used or new items:

- Onesies, sleepers, pants, outfits, jackets, and dresses
- Socks, hats, bibs, and shoes
- Blankets and sleep sacks (without Velcro)
- Board books in good condition
- Washable sensory toys

Thank you to the team at Kids & Coffee and the next time you head in for playtime, be sure to drop some items in the bin!

Gently Hugged volunteer, Lisa Lovern, visited the famous Rosie's Calico Cupboard Quilt Shop, earlier this year to shop for fabric. After a conversation with the staff at Rosie's about our mission of clothing San Diego newborns in need, Lisa was presented with a shopping cart full of quilts!

Our Rancho Bernardo and North Coastal offices shared the wonderful donation of 36 quilts. Each quilt will be included in a GH bundle and will provide warmth and love to a local infant soon. Thank you so much to Rosie Gonzalez and staff - our crafters love your shop!

It's easy to say that our 100% volunteer-led team has positively impacted the lives of many San Diego babies in need this year. But it's more powerful to share these specific metrics of impact:

- 7,033 pounds of usable baby clothing collected
- 798 bundles of critical need items delivered
- $244, 188 in total value of items distributed
- 9,113 non-clothing and handmade items (blankets, bibs, books, etc.) collected

We are so very proud of these efforts (numbers accurate as reported on June 30) and we are committed to serving newborns in need throughout the county in the second half of this year and beyond!

Gently Hugged has always been rooted in community, care, and the simple belief that every baby deserves a warm and gentle beginning.

We are excited to build on this strong foundation with tools that help us welcome more people into the Gently Hugged community. Our team has been working on an updated website and refreshed branding that will help people more easily find us, understand our work, and connect with the many ways they can support babies and families throughout San Diego County.

Our hope is that these updates will make Gently Hugged feel even more welcoming and accessible to clothing donors, volunteers, financial supporters, and community partners. Thank you for your patience as we gradually roll out our new branding!

We were thrilled when a parent at El Camino Creek Elementary School reached out and offered to coordinate a clothing drive for Gently Hugged at the end of the school year!

By placing a bin out front during drop-off and pick-up times, this school was able to collect over eight bags full of gently used 0-12 month baby clothing. We've learned that it really is as simple as that. When members of our incredible San Diego community see one of our collection bins in a place they frequent, the donations seem to just roll in and we are so very grateful.
