Originally called “Point Loma Village Beautiful,” we were primarily concerned with the aesthetics of the Village. Today, in addition to beautifying the Peninsula, PLA represents the community through direct involvement with agencies of federal, state and local governments, the Port District, the San Diego Unified School District, the Peninsula Community Planning Board, and others who directly affe

ct our quality of life. PLA Membership consists of residents and local businesses working together. We donate time, effort and money to make the Peninsula a better place in which to live and work. If you believe in our work and want to support us, please consider our memberships or monetary donations. Annual Membership is $30. Thank you to all of the PLA Business Members and guests who attended the May PLA Business Member networking mixer– such a fun time! Perfect weather, great company, and a whole lot of community spirit made our Poolside Mixer one to remember.

Eighty PLA members and guests kicked off summer at the shared HQ of Call Glenn Again Handyman Services and Poolside Succulents. Guests mingled throughout the colorful backyard, enjoyed great conversation, dined on burgers and dogs.

A highlight of the evening was supporting a beneficiary member, Paula's Pet Pantry. Thanks to the incredible generosity of members and guests, we collected more than 250 pounds of pet food and supplies for local pets and families in need. These donations are already being put to good use in our community and making a lot of tails wag. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed and Drew Hedegus of SoCal Light Letters, who provided giant light up WOOF letters.

Special thanks to our members and volunteers for making the evening possible, including Sun & Sips Mobile Bar Service who kept everyone's cups full and spirits high. Christie Romano of Rest & Relax Real Estate & Property Management sponsored the wine, and grill master Tony Romano, and Avi Klinger of Sign It and his client, Summit Gasoline, donated 125 pounds of ice.

Of course, no PLA mixer would be complete without fantastic door prizes donated by our generous members. Prize donors included Bali Hai Restaurant, Logan Violin, Dan Zamudio, Service Kings, Hug Zone, Point Loma Advisors, Beauty Energy Exchange Medspa, Go Goddess Organizing, Cygnet Theatre, the Peninsula Beacon, Matt Kalla Insurance, Surfpup.Store, Poolside Succulents, and Call Glenn Again. Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you to everyone who contributed prizes.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success. It was a wonderful reminder that the PLA is about more than networking. It's about neighbors supporting neighbors, local businesses supporting the community, and having a lot of fun along the way.

If you have a business on the Peninsula and are not yet a member of Point Loma Association, don’t be left out - we love socializing and networking with all the business members. If you’re not yet a business member but are interested in joining, please email us at [email protected] or visit: https://www.pointloma.org/pla-business-memberships

Mean Greeners - This Friday, June 5, we will meet at 9:00 a.m. at our Village work site. The Village is located in the middle of Point Loma at the corner of Canon Street and Rosecrans Street. We usually park along Canon Street (be aware there is a strictly enforced 2-hour limit on most parking areas).

We take care of the planters and tree basins in the village. We will meet at the corner of Canon and Rosecrans to pick up any supplies and get any instructions. Please bring your vest, gloves and favorite tools. We will have collection bags/bins on hand as well as some tools to lend. If you are new to the group, we will lend you a vest.

Afterward, we will meet at the shopping center where Jensen's and Peet’s Coffee & Tea are located (955 Catalina Blvd.) for refreshments and conversation. After getting your drink/food, please join us in the grassy area outside Jensen’s, and please bring a lawn chair if you can.

We hope to see you Friday!

This Saturday, head to the All Souls’ Episcopal Church for a special “Rags to Riches to Rady’s” rummage sale to benefit The Autism Discovery Institute of Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego.

This is a great opportunity to purchase beautiful designer clothes while supporting a great cause. The clothes are in very good condition (some new, some barely worn), and many are from noted designers – dresses, coats, vintage jackets, shoes, purses!

Last Friday, our Mean Green Team were hard at work cleaning up the westerly Pork Chop median at the intersection of Nimitz and West Point Loma Boulevards. While the landscape is lovely, it is rather dense. Our volunteers gather broken plantings and dead vegetation and pull so many weeds – but they can always use more help if you’re interested!

We could not do what we do without our volunteers. But they can’t do what they do without your support. We’d love it if you would think about supporting us – by joining us, volunteering or donating. Let’s make our community beautiful together!

Mean Greeners - This Friday, May 29, we will meet at 9:00 a.m. at our Dewey Elementary site. Dewey Elementary School is located at 3251 Rosecrans Street near Bev Mo. There is no parking along Rosecrans, but you may park in the large Loma Square parking lot where Sprouts and other stores are located.

We take care of the frontage plantings in front of Dewey. We will be weeding, trimming and picking up trash in the area. Please bring your vest, gloves and favorite tools. We will have collection bags/bins on hand as well as some tools to lend. If you are new to the group we will lend you a vest.

Remember to bring your lawn chairs, as we will gather afterward in the grassy park across the street from Con Pane (2750 Dewey Road in Liberty Station) for refreshments and conversation. You may get your drinks and snacks to-go at Con Pane or at one of the other eateries in the area. If the park is fenced off for an event, we will gather in the small grassy area right outside Con Pane.

We hope to see you Friday!

Mean Greeners - This Friday, May 22, we will meet once again at 9:00 a.m. at our Pork Chops work site, located at the corner of West Point Loma Blvd. and Nimitz. There are two medium-size areas, one on each side of Nimitz, that look like pork chops. You may park at the Dusty Rhodes Dog Park or on side streets. If you are on Nimitz coming from the PL village, turn left on West Point Loma and then make an immediate right turn into the dog park parking lot.

This week we will concentrate on the Pork Chop that is closest to the Dog Park. We'll be weeding, trimming, and picking up trash in the area.
