Welcome home, Heather!

We are delighted to share that Heather Wolfson has returned to Jewish Federation of San Diego as our Senior Director of Leadership & Belonging.

Many of you already know Heather. She helped shape this community once before through her work at Federation. In the years since, she built Maven Leadership Consulting, which she continues to lead, and has become one of the country's most trusted leadership coaches and facilitators, including for many who came through our Pauline Foster Women's Leadership Institute. Now she is back, focused on developing leaders and creating a community where every person feels they belong.

Her return reflects the future we are building together: a community alive with connection, leadership, and Jewish joy.

Please join us in welcoming Heather back, and read our full announcement here: https://hubs.la/Q04l-dSy0

This Shabbat, Federation recognizes Juneteenth and recommits to the sacred work of pursuing justice and freedom for all. The Jewish value of “tzedek, tzedek tirdof” (justice, justice you shall pursue) calls on us to build communities rooted in equity, dignity, and justice for everyone. Shabbat Shalom.

We recently celebrated the graduation of this year’s LEADS cohort!

Designed for young professionals, LEADS provides opportunities to explore leadership through a Jewish lens, build meaningful relationships, and engage more fully in San Diego’s Jewish community.

Over the past several months, this cohort explored what it means to lead with purpose, gained a broader understanding of the people, organizations, and values that shape our community, and built lasting connections through shared learning, hands-on experiences, and meaningful conversations.

Beyond the skills and perspectives gained, participants leave with something equally valuable: a network of peers connected by shared values, mutual support, and a commitment to Jewish life in San Diego.

Congratulations to this remarkable group. We look forward to the many ways they will continue to strengthen our community.

This past week, agency leaders from our sister region of Sha’ar HaNegev visited San Diego as part of the Gesher (“Bridge”) program, a five-year partnership that brings together professionals from both communities to learn from one another, exchange ideas, and strengthen relationships.

During the visit, participants spent time with organizations across our community, including the Lawrence Family JCC, Jewish Family Service of San Diego, Leichtag Foundation, San Diego Jewish Academy, UC San Diego Hillel, and the Jewish Community Foundation.

Equally valuable were the conversations that happened outside of formal meetings, around Shabbat tables, over shared meals, and with host families who welcomed participants into their homes.

“We feel like we’ve been seen by so many partners that care about us,” shared Uri Pinto, CEO of the Sha’ar HaNegev Municipality. “We also saw such a strong community that can collaborate, and I think we’ve mostly been inspired.”

While the visit has come to an end, the relationships, ideas, and conversations sparked throughout the week will continue to strengthen the connection between San Diego and Sha’ar HaNegev.

Jewish Federation of San Diego is proud to honor Jessica Korsunsky as the recipient of the 2026 Michael Jeser Outstanding Jewish Professional Award.

Through her professional leadership, volunteer service and deep commitment to building meaningful Jewish connection, Jessica has helped strengthen Jewish life across San Diego and throughout the western United States. From founding the Jewish Moms of North North County Facebook group to helping lead community events like the Vista Challah Bake and supporting Jewish organizations across 40 western-region communities, Jessica continues to create spaces for connection, belonging and community.

“People cannot engage in Jewish life if they do not feel seen, welcomed, or connected. My Jewish communal involvement has focused on helping Jewish and multi-faith families build friendships and connect to Jewish life,” Jessica shared.

Named in memory of former Federation President and CEO Michael Jeser z”l, the award recognizes emerging and mid-career Jewish communal professionals who demonstrate outstanding leadership and a lasting commitment to Jewish communal life.
