From Dana Reeder Garcia.

It’s with a broken heart I share that Tony passed away peacefully at home, with Cooper and me right by his side, after his brave battle with colon cancer.

I don’t have the words to fully describe this loss. Tony was my best friend, my soulmate, my safe place, and myTo strength. He was one of the most passionate, loving, and courageous men I’ve ever known. His laugh, his kindness, and his unwavering spirit changed everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He taught me how precious life is and how deeply we are capable of loving.

While my heart feels shattered, I find comfort in knowing that Tony is no longer in pain and is finally at peace. His love, his light, and his legacy will live on in all of us forever.

Many of you have asked what you can do to help. What would truly mean more to me than I can put into words is hearing your memories of Tony. A favorite story, a photo, a moment that made you laugh—any glimpse into how he touched your life would be a priceless gift.

A Mass in honor of Tony will be held on February 22nd at 5:00 p.m. at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, located at 11451 Blue Cypress Drive, San Diego, CA 92131.

For local residents who would like to help by contributing to a meal train, please reach out to [email protected].

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your love, your prayers, and your kindness during this incredibly difficult time.

The SRCA is looking for a volunteer to be our community's point of contact with MCAS Miramar Community Leader's Forum. After many years of dedicated service, Tony Garcia stepped down for heatlh reasons. We wish him all the care in the world. Living next to an active Marine Corps Air Station, the Scripps Ranch Civic Association is an active member of the MCAS Miramar Community Leaders Forum (CLF). The CLF is a group of community leaders from surrounding neighborhoods like Mira Mesa, Scripps Ranch, Tierrasanta, University City and Del Mar. Meetings are generally the third Thursday of each month at the base. The CLF is given updates as to activities occurring at MCAS Miramar including such issues as upcoming events, training opportunities, flight operations, control brush burns, Flying Leatherneck Museum, and noise complaints. If interested, please email us at [email protected]

Curious about the large development projects proposed near Scripps Ranch High School and what their impact will be on the school and our community? Then come to the Scripps Ranch Schools Committee meeting next Wednesday, January 21 at 4:30 p.m. in the Scripps Mesa STEAM Lab (10400 Spring Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92131). A meet and greet social will start at 4:15 for all who can arrive early.
Our topic is “Development Projects Near Scripps Ranch High School.” Ms. Victoria Labruzza, Chair of the Scripps Ranch Planning Group, will provide a briefing on multiple proposed and potential development projects in the area surrounding Scripps Ranch HIgh School, including the Shea Homes project and additional anticipated developments. The presentation will focus on how these projects may affect school operations, including traffic flow, student drop-off and pick-up, and overall campus access. The discussion will also outline the related rezoning considerations, how these projects move through the City approval process, and what key decisions lie ahead.
Interested community members are welcome to attend in person. Note: We do plan to offer a Zoom option but in-person meetings provide limited capabilities for virtual participation. You are encouraged to attend in-person to get the most out of the meeting. If planning to attend virtually, don’t forget to register in advance to receive the Zoom meeting details. The information will be sent Wednesday morning before the meeting.

Who is tired of childish vandalism in our parks? The SRCA is offering a $500 reward for turning in who damaged the Jerabek Park turf with either a small vehicle/truck or maybe a golf cart given the width of the tire marks. We have been successful before in paying the reward a few years ago and the culprit issued a community apology in the newsletter. A police report is being filed. The SR MAD is paying for the repairs and accessing the 16 cctv cameras just installed with our ADA improvement project. If you email or call us, you will be anonymous. Thank you SR for doing the right thing. It hopefully serves as a deterent for future bad behavior. Occurred December 29th at 9 pm as residents heard a vehicle doing burnouts in the parking lot.
