Andrea Doonan horticulture + design is a landscape design company specializing in transforming residential spaces into climate-resilient gardens that support biodiversity, nature connection, and community recreation. Andrea serves mostly homeowners, but has done a few presentations geared specifically towards renters, believing that gardens should be accessible to all regardless of home ownership.

We asked Andrea what excites her most about her work:

“What excites me most is sharing the creative process and the contagious joy of tending the garden as a gateway drug to nature connection and environmental stewardship.”

Andrea shared why she joined Business For Good and the outcomes she’s seen so far from joining:

“I was introduced to BFG as a group of purpose-driven professionals who are also active in the community, informing policy and making an impact. I’m primarily involved in design industry organizations, so this fills a different, unique gap. Our time is valuable, and I don't need just another networking group. I was drawn to the idea of surrounding myself with inspiring, like-minded professionals and peers who push me to be informed and grow in all aspects of my life. Since joining, I've made many wonderful connections and had several fruitful collaborations and projects. The (Doing) Business For Good Summit is a fave, as are the regular social engagements. My hope is to get more involved as time allows and attend some general and advocacy meetings.”

Thank you, Andrea, for all you do to bring beauty, sustainability, and biodiversity to our community!

Another Happy Hour For Good in the books! 🎉☕ We loved seeing so many familiar faces and meeting new ones at Mixed Grounds in North Park.

🌱💬 The best part of these evenings has never been and will never be a business card exchange; it's the authentic relationships, the energy, the hope, and the momentum towards DOING GOOD. We left inspired by the buzz in that room, the ideas swapped, and the support so many of you offered each other. That's value you can't put a price on.

✨ A special thanks to Uptown 11 Studios for presenting this one, and to everyone who showed up and made it a night worth remembering.

Can't wait to do it all again soon.

Rooms like this are why we gather. Thank you to everyone who came out for our August General Member Meeting, and to Kyle Walker of Strong Towns San Diego for a look at how local groups are reshaping our streets.

Kyle showed us the low-cost, high-impact street safety projects already underway across San Diego, including the recent North Park quick-build demonstration led by AARP California, North Park Main Street, America Walks, and Councilmember Whitburn’s office. He also walked us through how community groups and business districts can get involved through the Adopt-an-Intersection initiative at Strong Towns San Diego.

What stuck with us: safer, walkable streets and small-scale neighborhood entrepreneurship are building the same community our members show up for every day. When our community thrives, so do our businesses.

Thanks again to Kyle and all the members who shared the room with us.

Business for good is good for business. We have said it for years. It is good to see it in print.

The San Diego Business Journal covered the $500,000 joint investment from the The Prebys Foundation in Business For Good San Diego and B Local San Diego, and what it means for the mission-driven businesses shaping our local economy.

Thank you to the Prebys Foundation, to Paula Cordeiro, whose conviction about mission-driven business helped spark this investment, to B Local San Diego for building alongside us, and to Madison Geering for the thoughtful reporting.

When our community thrives, so do our businesses.

Applications close August 7. This is the last chance to apply to become CEO of Business For Good San Diego.

The incoming CEO will step into an organization with strong mission clarity, an engaged board, and defined goals, backed by new momentum from a $250,000 investment from The Prebys Foundation. This is a hands-on, relationship-intensive role for a leader who thrives at the intersection of business and social good.

This month, we are joined by Kyle Walker, Policy and Research Leader at Strong Towns San Diego, for a look at the low-cost, high-impact street safety projects San Diego groups are already running.

We will hear about the recent North Park quick-build demonstration, led by AARP California, North Park Main Street, America Walks, and Councilmember Whitburn's office, and learn how business districts and community groups can participate in or sponsor similar projects through the Adopt-an-Intersection initiative at Strong Towns San Diego.

Get inspired about how policies supporting small-scale neighborhood entrepreneurship, like the Home Enterprise Unit proposal, tie street-level safety to the same walkable, locally supported neighborhoods our members are trying to build.

Bring questions, share feedback, and be ready to make your voice heard.
