Balboa Park Sustainability Program

Balboa Park Sustainability Program Through collaboration and ongoing communication, the Sustainability Program has developed a shared vision for “greening” Balboa Park.

As one of the nation’s great urban parks, Balboa Park has provided educational and cultural enrichment experiences for the San Diego region since its evolution from a scrub-filled mesa to its status as a civic jewel in the heart of the city. The Balboa Park Sustainability Program is a program of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership, the collaborative body and collective voice for 29 diverse arts,

science and cultural institutions in San Diego's historic Balboa Park. Established in 2008, the award-winning Sustainability Program is a community-wide movement dedicated to educating, engaging, and inspiring others to implement sustainable practices to ensure this civic treasure will continue to thrive for generations to come. Together, our Partnership institutions support 500 trustees, 7,000 volunteers, and 3,500 staff in their service to more than 6.5 million visitors annually. For more information about our recent accomplishments visit our website. Through collaboration, Balboa Park Institutions have saved 8.6kWhs in energy, $1.3 million and 79,653 therms in gas annually from building retrofits.
