TORNADO RISK: a low-end tornado risk develops across parts of California overnight tonight, through Christmas Eve, continuing into Christmas day. A potent West Coast trough with an associated atmospheric river will be influencing the region. California will be in a zone that’s known as the ‘left-exit region’ of this trough, enhancing the potential for storms - in which a couple will likely become severe. While instability will be on the lower side, adequate low-level and deep-layer shear could counter the lack of instability, allowing for low-top, rotating supercells to develop - producing a brief waterspout or weak tornado, damaging wind gusts and possibly small hail. Areas to watch include the California coast and the Central Valley. The Storm Prediction Center has introduced a low-end tornado risk on Wednesday for these areas🌪️
