MUN SDSU Bi-National Conference 2016

MUN SDSU Bi-National Conference 2016 To promote bi-national activities about the Cali-Baja region and to offer opportunities to students by connecting them with working professionals

The Bi-National Model United Nations Collaborative Conference will be a two day conference in which all SDSU and regional student are invited to attend a first of its kind and high impact educational experience. The objective is to engage both current and prospective SDSU transfer students in a collaboration that will promote: scholarship, research, study abroad, career guidance, and educational

mentoring. This is in-line with the SDSU Strategic Plan to promote Student Success, Research and Creative Endeavors, and Community and Communication. Specifically, the conference will facilitate a motivating environment by means of a Model United Nations (M.U.N.) conference supplemented by an international career conference to include workshop sessions for students to hear from speakers with international minded jobs. This also promotes the fact that SDSU is ranked as one of the top study abroad and internationally focused campuses in the USA. Often times a student interested in international oriented careers may feel that actually finding a job in the field is daunting. This two day conference serves as a means to mend that gap by inviting students to participate in the Model U.N. conference to learn how to think and analyze global affairs from multiple perspectives, while hearing first-hand how working professionals and academics achieved their career goals. Since San Diego is in the Cali-Baja region, we would invite our fellow peers from Northern Baja Mexico, as well, to join in and enhance this conference to promote cross-border diplomacy. The format of the conference will be: Day 1 will be the actual General Assembly style Model United Nations format conference to show students a real-world example of how they can potentially be future change-makers discussing relevant topics. This will stimulate scholastic inspiration to discuss relevant topics related to succeeding in an internationally minded career and to promote the development of ideas to solve problems related to current issues such as a refugee crisis, financial market failures, natural disasters, etc. Day 2 focusing on career related presentations and a career fair to promote opportunities for students. The incentives are to: Encourage international engagement, promote interdisciplinary and diversity studies, promote service learning and service activity, promote international collaboration.
