Girls Rising We're a nonprofit based in San Diego that empowers young women through a mentorship sisterhood.

Our programs are built on connection, education, personal development, and career growth. We began expanding to Riverside County in 2022 and are currently accepting Mentor and Mentee applications for cities located within Riverside County! The mission of Girls Rising is to empower girls from eight years of age to early adulthood through a sisterhood of mentorship and career readiness support. Our Girls Rising Mentorship Program is built through example and community. We believe the value of mentorship is realized through positive modeling and support for girls aged 8-17 from San Diego and Riverside County areas with the greatest need. Our program for young women between 18-24, Women Emerging, focuses on career readiness and personal development.

Mentorship is about so much more than spending time together. It’s about building confidence, creating memories, trying new things, and having someone by your side who believes in you.

This Girls Rising mentor and mentee recently spent the day kayaking at La Jolla Cove, making memories and strengthening a connection that can have a lasting impact.

At Girls Rising, it costs approximately $4,500 per year to support each mentor and mentee match. That investment helps us provide the resources, guidance, and ongoing support needed to build meaningful, lasting relationships.

As we continue to grow, we need your help reaching more girls who are waiting for a mentor of their own.

At Girls Rising, we don’t match mentors and girls based on location alone. Our careful, thorough process considers experience, shared interests, personality, each girl’s needs, and more—because a strong connection starts with a thoughtful match.

If you’ve already applied and are still waiting to be matched, thank you for your patience! We’re taking the time to find a pairing where you can build a meaningful, lasting relationship.

We still have girls waiting for a mentor, and more volunteers mean more opportunities to find the right fit for each one. Help us move girls off our waitlist and into relationships that help them feel supported, confident, and seen.

At Girls Rising, mentorship isn’t about pairing the next available volunteer with the next girl on the list. We take the time to thoughtfully match each mentor and mentee based on personality, shared experiences, interests, and the unique strengths they can bring to one another. These relationships are built to last, and finding the right fit matters.

If you’ve been thinking about volunteering in your community, this is your sign.

Just a few hours each month can change the trajectory of a young girl’s life by giving her a consistent, caring role model who encourages her, supports her, and reminds her that she matters.
